6 week old chicks showing signs of illness in a few

Where are they being kept? Is there a way they can get outside in the sunshine during the day? How long have you had them under the heat lamp? How cold does it get at night?
I found another dead in quarinte in the spare bathroom. I guess being removed from the heat lamp and garage didn’t help... I’m down to two chickens left(they still appear to Be doing fine) They where being kept in a 4 foot by 8 foot pen. And it’s in the garage. I did It that way to have more control over the elements until they are older and it saved me from needing to build two coops. When they where ready to live with the others, then I was going to use their pin and combine it with the main one so they all have more running space. Sometimes it gets down into the 50s laity. I open the garage doors for them to get some outside air during the day. When they are old enough around June. I was going to add them into my main coop and pin with the other 3.

I'm sorry you're having such a bad experience. I really don't know what to tell you. How about the feed? Is there any chance it could be moldy? I believe there is a date on the tag that says when it was made. A "mill date". I have read that it should not be more than 6 months old. Are there any chemicals in the garage near them? I can't think of anything else right now.

What does the poo look like? You said runny? They all very sick if they are dropping dead. What are they eating? Can you comtact the person you bought them off and tell them about this?
My suspicion is coccidiosis, it's the most common thing I know of that strikes young chooks

This is heart breaking ...it’s so difficult to diagnose but I’d agree it’s something contaminated they’re eating or breathing. The suggestion pre existing condition is also possible but as none were showing signs of illness until you moved them it seems more likely to be something in the environment they’re in..is there anything in the garage that could be poisonous? Or as suggested the food? Have they had any preventative medicine for coccidiosis added?
I agree with the suggestion to contact the seller..see if they’re having same problem ?

Let’s all just brain storm ..maybe something will help!

I did contact the sell and he’s not having the same problem. I cleaned up the area that their pin is in so there is nothing for them to reach around it. The food is brand new and is “Dumar Organic Chick Feed” no mold or Anything. There is just typical stuff in the garage that everyone has. Everything is far away from the pin. The only household chemicals are sealed and at least 20 feet away. Whatever it is claimed them, it killed 3 within 12 hours.

Could it be that I used treated wood to build the pin? Their gullets did feel empty. You know how you can feel the roundish area on a full bird on their chest? The ones that are still alive, I can feel that roundish area, on the ones that passed, I could not. Could me touching them having anything to do with it? I alway washes my hands before and after touching them. Maybe the blue Kote or Peck-No-More I put on the one.

I did see a rat in the garage a few weeks ago, set a trap and got it and no signs since. I never used poison though. Could it somehow be something borne from the rat that was down there?

Hmm it's very mysterious. Your doing everything right, please don't think this is your fault, it's so hard to know what to do when they are dying and I don't think anyone could do much better in the situation you're in. My heart goes out to you

He hasn’t had a problem with his dying. He was a breeder that breeds all kinds of birds. He offered to give me some more but I’m scared of more dying. The food I’m feeding them is brand new and organic. I used a feeder I used a long time ago with my flock but I cleaned the crap out of it and it has not been used in awhile to lead me to think that a pathogen couldn’t be on it anymore. Could the treated wood I used to build the pin have anything to do with it? My kids are devistated...

Is there a simple coop I can build that would be adequate until I can add them to my existing flock in June? I built a very basic pin for the garage because it was intended to be temporary and be modular to connect to my existing setup outside to give my flock more space too. My plan was to have them protected from the elements and have a cost effective way to temporarily house them until they were ready for integration in June at the 3 month old mark. I feel If I try again, I need to keep them outside Incase I never figure out if the issue was the garage. To do so though. It means I need to build a temporary yet adequate coop too and they would need to be okay with 60 degree nights.
