We have been offering our 6 week old chicks a variety of greens, fruits, etc and they have absolutely no interest in any of it. Are greens a necessity or just a treat? They eat their ratite pellets no problem. Any suggestions as to how to get them to eat anything else?

Gotta somewhat disagree with Pyxis. Pellets may be 'nutritionally sufficient,' but every captive emu needs every skerrick of greenery/fresh food you can give it. Won't eat fruit either? Wow, that's strange. All my tame-wild birds love almost all fruit.

To clarify in case what I posted before wasn't clear, and apologies to the OP if it wasn't, I definitely wasn't saying don't feed them greens or don't try new greens to see if they'll eat them (which is why I asked which greens have been tried), I was meaning that if they are on a ratite pellet, they are in no danger of malnutrition or dying from an insufficient diet. If you can get them to eat greens or fruit definitely do.

Thanks. I have tried all the typical greens - Kale, spinach, dandelion, salad greens. Nothing interests them. Grapes, pears, apples, again nothing. Offered both in water and separate. They do graze around the yard when we are home. I will keep offering!
