6 Week Old Pullet Smells Bad *Update: Cocci or Coryza?*

At this point, there is no need to isolate, treat everyone cause if one has it, it is likely that they all do and just haven't started showing signs yet.

Thank you. Will unflavored milk kefir work? My mom makes it and has tons. Should we still isolate her? I trust Amille's judgement, but I'm still worried about isolating her.

I have never heard of milk kefir...so, I do not know if it contains live bacteria cultures or not. From what I just read, Kefir is carbonated and slightly alcoholic in nature...probably not a good combination to give to your chick...I think I would stick with yogurt

It contains many strains of bacteria. (my mom works as a customer support person for this stuff. It is a lot like yogurt only less solid. We have no yogurt at the moment.

They all drank their milk kefir (had to put grass in it. Petrie soon figured it out and drank some, then Ducky found it and drank it without the grass) except for Lily who is now doing the stance. Ducky loved it so much that she spilled it all over herself.

We will probably get Corid tonight.

I'm pretty sure I've read about people giving their chickens kefir. Maybe use one that hasn't been aging (or whatever the term is) as long. My mom played around with kefir for awhile, but it always tasted horrible!

I think she always let it go too long. At this point I don't think there's any reason to separate the chicks. They've all been exposed to the droppings by now and it would just stress the one chick more to be by herself. I don't think Corid will do any harm to the ones that seem fine. So, yeah, start the corid and give your chicks kefir. Good luck!

The kefir won't help take care of the Cocci. It's to help get there systems back on track while and after they are on the Corid. I would try to get the Corid as soon as possible. Coccidiosis is not something you want to mess around with. It is a killer and, once they start to show symptoms, it can move really fast.

Just called my father. He's going to try to come home earlier so we can get the Corid tonight, but he may not be able to. Let's hope he can
