6 weeks coockoo marans cross with EE (I think)

did the cuckoo marans have feathered feet? I thought it was uncommon for the cuckoos to have feathered shanks? Any matter, I WANT ONE OF THOSE!!!!

Marans DONT have feathered feet (we've had them) however when they are chicks the DO have a little white spot on their head, i must agree shes a pullet but her sister looks roo'ish, she might be crossed but I would guess she would have a beard. Marans (im sure you know) are typically black with white barring. We had one with a barred rock and the maran was MUCH darker with less barring. Beautiful chicks! I want one!

The French variety do have feathered legs. The British and American lines have had that trait bred out. And not all Marans are barred. What you are probably referring to are the Cuckoo Marans, which have similar coloring and patterns to Barred Plymouth Rocks and Dominiques. You may want to check out this FeatherSite page on Marans to see the different varieties and colors.

okay, I meant cuckoo marans specifically. I have three FBCM and two of them DO have feathered shanks, while the third has just a whisp of feathers on each leg. Cuckoos however, seem to be clean legged. There is a difference between the french varieties and the british and american lines.

Mine did not have a spot on their heads when they were chicks, but I have black coppers, not cuckoos.

However, other varieties DO. And if her bird is a cuckoo marans mix, where did the feathered shanks come from?

Balze..yup, one of thise "sisters" did turn out to be a roo... cuold not tell until closer to 4-5 months... which is scarey as mine looks girly now. Not sure if the other is still a girl.
Mine has a beautiful Cockoo marans daddy who is huge. He throws some with feathershank, although I dont think he has any himself. My little one has light feathering (nothing like a silkie or cochin) and the pattern is grey/blue with the pale bars. Here is to hoping it stays girly!
