Absolutely! They are the most friendly, non-aggressive, and approachable breed I have ever known.

The only aggression any Oriental Gamefowl, such as Shamos, should show is towards other male chickens, which is naturally a part of the breed. But even towards the other hens we have who run around the yard, my stag only tries to mate with them, that's all.

Putting that aside, the stag especially, named Godzilla, follows anyone around like a puppy, loves to "chat" with people, always wants treats (but half the time tries offering them back to you) and allows anyone to pick him up without any objections or hesitations. They're certainly not a shy or flighty breed. If I'm way off, over 100 feet from him and he spots me - He'll come running on over to say hi.

There's no doubt this is the friendliest and most kid-safe breed I have on my farm. There's a reason I have them running loose in the yard.

I may possibly have another 6-12 eggs up for auction in another week or two, but there's no guarantee. I'd like mine to start brooding on their own eggs sometime soon.

Does that mean you HAVE to have another pen? Would they hurt my pet chickens even if I don't have a rooster?

No, you do not have to have another pen. Especially with the fact that you'd be raising these up as chicks, you can have the females grow up with other hens just fine.
