Absolutely! They are the most friendly, non-aggressive, and approachable breed I have ever known.
The
only aggression any Oriental Gamefowl, such as Shamos, should show is towards other male chickens, which is naturally a part of the breed. But even towards the other hens we have who run around the yard, my stag only tries to mate with them, that's all.
Putting that aside, the stag especially, named Godzilla, follows anyone around like a puppy, loves to "chat" with people, always wants treats (
but half the time tries offering them back to you) and allows anyone to pick him up without any objections or hesitations. They're certainly not a shy or flighty breed. If I'm way off, over 100 feet from him and he spots me - He'll come running on over to say hi.
There's no doubt this is the friendliest and most kid-safe breed I have on my farm. There's a reason I have them running loose in the yard.
