6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

YAY I got my eggs from papa poultry. Now if the last 3 little eggies will hatch!!!

O did I mention I'm a new mom to 5 babies and 4 is almost out and 3 is just taking there time.

But the question is/was how does anybody know who set how many eggs? Where do we submit *that* information? Is that the stuff that's done via photograph? (which I thought was for a whole 'nother contest)
Oh, I'm sorry! I completely misread your question.

The wormer I use for capillary worms is Safeguard, and I know this will surprise many, but the dose to treat them is 0.23ml per *pound* for *five* consecutive days. This dose will treat roundworms, cecal worms, gapeworms, capillary worms and possibly some tapeworms.

Valbazen can also be used and is dose at 0.08ml per pound once and repeat in ten days. This dose will treat roundworms, cecal worms, a large percentage of capillary worms, possibly some tapeworms, but I do not think it will treat gapeworms, thou it might if given three days in a row.

There is a disease that causes the runny egg white and funny egg shells, but I don't remember the name of it. Will check and report back.

It stays ABOUT 37.5 c. think that convert to 99.5. I don't add any water until day 18 either. It is cold in my house to. I haven't turned the heaters on yet. I just put another blanket on... LOL my chihuahuas sleep under the covers and heat things up....
No frost here in my part of the California. Frost equals electric blanket.
I think my hens are on strike now !! They hate the cold and rain... But I already collected enough eggs to play NYH 2014 Praying for a few more before tomorrow at noon.

That's usually how I stay warm as well (until it gets really cold anyway). 2 snuggle bunny chihuahuas sleep under the covers with me, and boy do they put out some heat!

Then, when that isn't enough we all huddle under the electric blanket. But when my fingers and nose start going numb, then it is time to crank on the heater.

Really? No water till day 18? I thought you had to add water all the time?
It really depends on your particular climate, incubator, and where your incubator is located. A lot of people do a "dry" hatch (me included), but that doesn't mean you want 0 humidity, just significantly lower than common "rules" recommend. I shoot for around 30-35% for the first 18 days on mine. How much water (if any) it takes to hit that mark depends on the weather, time of year, if I'm running any ac or heat, etc.

I'm just on page 129, but I have some fun news. I had collected about 40 F1 EE but I'm out of brooder space so I couldn't set them...Mentioned it on a local Facebook page and everyone went right after me to set the eggs so they could buy t he chicks!! I am SO happy! So, I'll be setting 40-50 F1 EE, and maybe 18-20 Pure BBS Ameraucana!! Yay!! I'm happy~!
That is awesome!

Congrats!

Checked all my new maran eggs last night. All were in perfect condition after their long trip. Got 8 instead of 6, nice surprise. Will also set one Australorp and one Orpington. Going to start warming the bator tonight.

Here are the beautiful eggs he brought me

. Some are even still warm from the hen! Also my incubator temps are reading 102.5 on the digital thermometer that is part of the bator (probe is right under heating element) 99.0 on the incutherm(positioned on egg tray farthest from heater) and 97.5 on the fish tank thermometer (beside the incutherm) Should I turn it up by 1 degree or maybe 0.5 of a degree??? It is a digital control so i can turn it up/down by increments of 0.5
