They are in and IT'S on.........great hatching vibes to everyone!!!!!!!!!!

Any bright ideas for candling bantam eggs... You see I use a TP roll attached to a flash light... It's way to big ( yes I love TP rolls apparently )

I use duct tape attached to the light end of my skinny LED flash light, looks like a little tunnel for the light. My flash light is narrow so the duct tape starts out narrow and gets a little wider toward the opening. Works perfectly for me.

edited to add- if your flash light is wide you can make the duct tape narrow toward the end to fit the bantam egg.

Pregnant Chicken Farmer to her husband from bedroom: "Honey! The baby just pipped!!! What do I do?"
Husband Chicken Farmer in response: "Hold on! I'll check BYC!!!"

I'm glad you didn't! The last thing I need is to be arrested for murder. Could you imagine the papers? "West Virginia man arrested for murder. The weapon: A Joke!"

Better watch out. You might get labled as a serial killer! Cracked me up so much I had a coughing fit for a good five minutes!

You guys are so tempting with all the eggs your setting. I know I shouldn't hatch but I have that itch reading this thread lol. I have a few Silkie eggs and I so want to take all my Cream Legbar eggs out of the refrigerator and set those too lol. Agh I shouldn't hatch in winter. I told my kids and they said whats the problem just set the eggs. They were a real big help.
See? EVERYone says says SET THE EGGS!

Leahy 1200, 8 trays

Wow! That's a nice bator!

I set eggs at 8:30 this morning before heading out the door for work. I don't want to give numbers for the sake of the contest but here are the types I set:

Buff Orpingtons
Rhode Island Reds
White Wyandottes
Barred Rocks
Red Leghorns
Silkies ( may or may not have a silkie dad)
Lavender Ameraucanas

and because chicken math is easy and I had room in the bator.....a couple barnyard mutts from my LA roo over a Dark Brahma hen.

I also have 5 eggs in lockdown in the hatcher due tomorrow from a test batch. The LA roo over the following hens:

LA x2
Blue Andalusian x1
BCM x1
White Rock x1

Good luck to everyone. May your temps always be perfect!
Ooo, that's gonna be a nice rainbow of chicks.

I have 5 slow pokes still in the incubator, taking their sweet time! So we might set a bit later in the day. Maybe I will find more fresh eggs in the barn to add

.

I found 2 of the RIR eggs are cracked. I put a cost of fingernail polish over just that area. I wonder if that ever works
I have read about people using polish on cracked eggs and getting successful hatches from them.

Hope they hatch for you!

Many of us will want to candle tonight!

That is next, candling reports.
I know, right?!? I may have to have my daughter hide my flashlights!

I thought I would have to set a day or two late, cause I figured my shipped eggs wouldn't be here in time. But they are arriving today!!

I'm trying to decide if I should go ahead and set them today, or wait till tomorrow so they can settle. I was planning to not set my eggs till this evening so I can maybe get another LO and SFH to set. The shipped eggs will arrive between 12 and 1 here. So that would give them about 3-4 hours to settle if I set them this evening. What do y'all think - let them settle for a day, or go ahead and set them this evening and maybe not turn for a day or so if the air cells are hinky?

The brinsea ova view comes with a quail egg\bantam adapter.

Duct tape on a flash light?

Perfect!
I will up grade to a proper candler at some point...

I don't know about the nail polish, but I read that a bit of paraffin wax works.
