6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Okay, I have to admit it, she is a very pretty silkie. There, I said it. lol I wouldn't begrudge anyone who loves these birds but I've never seen one that I truly thought was pretty...until now. lol

Wow, that is a great compliment! Thanks!

I think the father of the babies to be is pretty handsome, but as much as I like Silkies, I really don't like the roosters combs. They make up for it with their super sweet personalities though.

Yay! Just got the call that my Marans eggs are at our Post Office!

morning lil eggys tilted bator at a rock steady 99.5 with 30 humidity one thermomature is just a smidge over 99.5 it's the farthest egg.. should I rotate the eggs in the egg carton to give the eggs chance to shift in different area's? I am using the circular wedge I drilled out of the bator to insert the light fixture.. is that enough "tilt" to shove under one end or the other of the egg carton?
I think the optimum tilt angle is 45 degrees.

Since we have to wait 3 weeks for pics of the HAL chicks I thought I would share. Last night at midnight I had one egg pipped of the five in the styrofoam hatcher. This morning I came out to a second pip and this.

What a lovely baby! I love blues.

I can't believe how much fun I'm having with this Hatch-a-long. I thought I was excited for my first time incubating (this is only my second) , but this is so much more fun! It's so great to share in the experience with so many other people!

Is it terrible of me that it has been only day 1, and I'm already looking forward to the Easter Hatch-a-long?

I love hatching along with other people. It makes the whole thing just so much more enjoyable.

So as I have already said I wanted to hatch because I have been itching for chicks but I held on to my will power and decided not too, my plan was to wait until early Spring. Well my Silkie may have other plans for me, as she is looking a little broody. She has been on the nest since yesterday on one little Silkie egg. I think I might slip a few more Silkie eggs under her so I can join the hatch. I will PM Ron if I do.
Yay!

I just got a call from home. The eggs for the HAL are here but the bottom of the box is wet...I have a bad feeling about this shipment....

Oh no! I hope they are alright.

Oooo, wet isn't good. Hopefully the eggs didn't get wet. This is how my box when I picked mine up this morning. But, the eggs looked good..they were out for a while, we will see what we will see.

Sheesh! I hope you still have some good eggs from it.

We are still waiting for the eggs to hatch, how long is too long to wait? I am not talking about the HAL eggs. Sigh

If it is after day 22 or so and there are no pips, I would water candle them to check for signs of life.

What is keeping me distracted from wanting to candle eggs already

That and laundry, lol

This is one huge RIR egg. It touches the turner just the slightest at the end of each turn. I hope it's just a big egg and not a double.

My favorite candling light is my Samsung cell phone flash light. I just be quick because it does warm up. But it's super bright and small. Works better than any other kind of flashlight I've tried. I'm too cheap to buy an actual candling light.
That is a cute baby! Most of the time double yolks with have a flat band around the middle of the egg (where the two eggs fused together).

we set 41 [full tray] bcm eggs for the nyd hatch. Eggs are from my 3 favorite hens 1 fav rooster

- collected daily since 11-17 til 12-10 .... all eggs have date wrote on them and will be paying close track of the oldest eggs for my own data on how long eggs stay good .
I'm doing the same. I have some in there around a month old. I just want to see how they do, plus I only have 1 SFH hen and 2 LO hens and I'm trying to expand my flock so I wanted to get as many as I could collected. Those are gorgeous birds btw.

We had a turkey one time named Tom Tom Turkey Toes and one day, I was outside having a smoke. I just lit my cigarette and Tom walked right up to me and as I turned to talk to my bro, he snatched the whole lit cigarette out of my hand and in one gulp it was gone! lol
Yikes!

Ok folks...finally got all of my eggs in the bator. Birchen sea turtles, sizzle x duck billed platypus (f2), heritage show quality american alligator, and my project quail x bald eagle olive eggers.
