The lettering may not be in issue - I just hatched 11 out of 12 with the stamp on them. To be fair the eggs were only 5 days old when I set them.re: TJ's eggs
Leghorns, California Whites, Austrawhites No guarantee what the carton will hold.
(Hint: Ask a TJ's clerk if they've got anything fresher in the back...there's usually a case that has come in just sitting there, but they want to sell all the week-old and 10-day-old merchandise first.)
(second Hint: Try to get the eggs with the date NOT stamped on the shell... I've found the ones with the red lettering on the shell have a lower hatch rate)

How long is the longest you have let a girl sit before giving her eggs? Is 3 weeks too long? I want to participate here but I am afraid my girl will be officially full on broody in the next couple of days so she would be sitting for 6 weeks if I don't give her eggs until 12/10. I have held them off for about 2 weeks before but never 3. What are your thoughts??
I had a Bantam sit for seven weeks.... First eggs were duds and I let her go over a few extra days, but she was not giving up... So I gave her more eggs and let her keep going. I just started feeding her lots of protein packed foods, she sure had a taste for it. Loads of scrambled eggs and made sure she had water... She did well, didn't loss much weight once I started offering her proteins.
Thank you for the hintsre: TJ's eggs

Check around at your local grocery stores - in my area both Winco and Raleys carry fertile eggs in addition to TJs. You may also have luck at a Farmers Market or health food store.I just found out my trader joes does not carry fertile eggs![]()
