But all the late comers are messing up my perfectly calculated guess!

I have two sets that I put in on the 11th. Just have one going in late tonight.

shouldn't the number of eggs cooking be in by this Saturday instead of after the HAL is officially over on the 1'st?

*the'regonnabeokay...they'regonnabeokay...they'regonnabeokay* just keep saying that and hope!

LOL yeah, well, I was sort of thinking of breeding programs with one sire per incubator when I made it. And I read somewhere that 1 rooster can service up to 20 hens. Of course, I was always taught that more than a 12:1 HRR was all you'd want. My dad was always very strict about that so that's really what I go with but I figured, why not? Others probably will do up to 20:1 HRR so I'll give them room for it.

Wow, that's a lot of pure breeds. Are you a commercial breeder or just lonely? lol
just lonely lol I am not lonely!!!!!!!! No I have small breeding groups, love the different color eggs. In the spring sell a few chicks and eggs. Had planned on not hatching to much this year,. I think I need a AA group for hatching.
To me it is a challenge to hatch different breeds and shipped eggs. I personally have a horrible time with the Black copper marans always horrible hatchs. Don't black copper breeding group now.
My brahma X breeds hatched all that was fertile. Have bred the pure yet.
The brown leghorns hatch easy Plus the white eggs make the egg packages look so much brighter in color.
wheat marans can be tough.
the amerucana a lot dont hatch
cream legbar I spent a bunch on eggs, hatched roosters mostly. have 2 purebred hen. they are young
my little cochin hatch like popcorn
It is just a hobby for a old lady....
plus you meat nice people

I would REALLY LOVE to see pictures of the broody hen hatchers hens sitting...pleeeaseee??? I just hatched five silkies just so I could have real live hen hatches!!! I ALWAYS use an incubator!

Sitting hens or duck pictures please!!!

I would post a picture of my eggs for the hatch along but they look the same as they did yesterday...

If you look back on page 184, I posted a picture of my white Silkie broody sitting on eggs. I originally bought Silkies to use for hatching eggs but fell in love with the breed for their sweet personalities.

Your lucky to have a sweet male Silkie, mine is sometimes a fresh little thing. Your male is very handsome. Is he porcelain? Porcelain is my favorite.

I have this guy and his brother, both porcelains from eggs I purchased from Catdance Silkies. They do peck my feet sometimes before they realize it is ME!

They do their little dance at me and love to be fondled and petted. I did have to train them not to bite when they became of breeding age. The Silkie roosters are my favorites!

What color is yours?

USPS tracking shows my BLRW eggs arrived at 7:00 p.m. (mountain time) at the Albuquerque Post Office, which means I'll be able to pick them up tomorrow provided they transfer over to my local Post Office. (Yay!) Looking forward to candling them to see what the air cells look like after a loooong jaunt for expedited priority mail (sent on the 9th)

Ron, I've got a split hatch that will be happening. You've got the total for the ones I set on the 11th for the "Guess the number of eggs set" contest. Do I submit the second batch when set, which may be Sunday? I know they won't go towards some contests.... What is the cutoff for submitting numbers? Or does it matter? I'm fine with having my second (very) later hatch not count for anything. Heck, I don't even know how many eggs I'll have! With all the eggs being set at assorted times is there going to be a "Guess the number of chicks hatched" contest? If so, what's the deadline and protocol for the hatching?

I know.... So many questions.....

The shipped eggs were packed terribly!

Paper egg cartons, not bubble wrap on the eggs. the cartons were wrapped in large bubble wrap and the foam nugget spacers.

One egg was smashed and oozed onto two others.

Packed correctly, this shipment would have made it perfectly.

The yolk looked good though.

Well at least the yolk looks good. I'm sending you positive vibes from my vibometer 3000. You should get a 48% egg quality boost now...unless this thing malfunctions again.

There, I also sent a little chicken dance charm as well. That should help.

I am just dying here wondering if my eggs are developing how am I gonna get thru the next 7 days until I can candle!

I saw someone say the tilt of the eggs needs to be 45 degree's?
That's if they're in an egg holder of some sort, if they're laying on the 'bator floor, then there's little you can do to prop each one up.

Wow, that's like just crazy! I'd love to see how you keep track of all of them.
