6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Question for all the dark egg hatchers. I have never been successful at candling BCM eggs. Does anyone here just weigh them instead of candling?

I have never weighed mine but I have had great success using a small LED flash light. You cant see everything in detail but most times enough to see if they are developing.

Next question lol I'm going to hatch in a carton this time. How do you doctor it up or do you just leave it as it is. The part that the eggs set in that is.

I cut the top points in half and leave the bottom alone. The eggs are tilted back a bit when set.

Agreed. I've only been able to tell whether the clear space was getting smaller/being filled with chick, and sometimes at the end can see movement near the sac.

In reading the post I think everyone needs a chick fix for our addiction I hatched these December 4th. They are half NN of unknown pedigree. By a gold brahma roo. Only got five or 6 NN But all chicks are either yellow or chipmonk colored. She lay a nice brown egg and lots of them. Shes Buff colored.\

Do you think they are sex linked in any way. Hoping They all have feathered legs like the brahmas tooo

I asked that ^ earlier. Does anyone know the answer?

These are the official candling days. You will be looking for air cells to be a similar percentage of the egg on those days. Humidity is adjusted based on development.

should candle and draw circles were the air cells are? then take pictures of a few and post them. I might remember to candle then. Many and times I lost time of how long eggs have been in the bator remembering only when chicks are peeping in the rocking turner. I am so bad.
