If you are having a hard time candling dark eggs, give them a sniff once in awhile and pull the ones that smell rotten.

Also, watch the color of the air sac..if it's getting darker than it was, it could have quit. It's just so darn hard to know what to do, but yes, if it smells bad, get it out of there. I've had a few stinkers. A couple of times I've opened my bator to a smell...I talk to my eggs and ask..ok, which one of you is stinkin it up in here? Of course I check the dark eggs first as I have been able to see in the other eggs.

No I have never shown yet. We are planning on showing some this coming year. All out birds are now exhibition lines.





This is some not so good pictures . But remember there is no such a thing as a perfect bird. All have faults . You just strive to improve on the quality of them and keep a standard.

Those are some beautiful blues! So......How far are you from Nashville? (I drive for chickens). Would LOVE to have some of your blood line to improve my BCM's !!!

Ok so i've finally caught on on the past 20 pages or so....Good morning lol(iknow its late but i started reading it this am)

i want to candle my eggs so so badly but they are only on day 3-4 right now so i dont think there is much point and i have muscovy eggs so extra movement isnt good i dont think.

How many people havnt cheated on their candling cause i dont think i will make it to day 7 on the chicken eggs and day 10 on the duck eggs

I jurt got my premire one brooder in on monday and i really like it so far! Im going to start running it ince i get my brooder box set up

And its a small! Im impressed with the size! I can easily fit 20-30 chicks depending on the size of them!

The legs are hard to pop in at first but changing the level is easy and excellent!

Please let us know how it works for you once you have it running in the brooder. I'm very interested in replacing my heat lamps but I always want to know how things work before I buy them.

LOL yeah, especially in conjunction with the X-men type mutant dream I had earlier!

But I think the point about the chick dream that I didn't emphasize enough was when I said trying to get them together and still long enough for a group photo, think kindergarten class photo! I was literally trying to get them in lines and spaced evenly so that I could get everyone in the shot.

Great visual! My daughter just had her first dance recital (she's 3) and it was the hardest thing to get 9 little girls to stay in line while waiting for the stage...I picture something like that.

I haven't cheated so far on my original set but did look at the ones my daughter gave me to add to them. I may cheat today before it gets cold again. I'm supposed to candle tomorrow but have a dr appt so I will be gone most of the day and don't want to candle them at night when it is cold. I'm using Broody hens so exposing the eggs to the cold night air probably isn't the best idea.
