This is what a pretty dark RIR egg looks like with my red neck candler in the dark. The egg that was in the other picture is a duck egg.

Here is my red neck candler! The flashlight came from Home Depot it has 900 lumens. I took a can of green beans and cut the top off, feed the beans to the chickens, and cut a 1 1/2" hole in top with a circle cut drill bit. The egg sits perfectly in the hole. It works great.

ETA: please pardon my mess in my junk room. My DW saw me posting the picture and did I should be ashamed. I was like why it's my junk and I'm proud of it lol. She was still not pleased :/

to feel ashamed. Every room in my house is the junk room. We're hoarders around here. Don't like to throw nothing away.

Sooo I candled them all...aaaannd....ALL of them show good veins and what I hope are good sized air cells!!!!

First time hatcher, so far so good!

I think I might be in the running for worst hatch rate. 3 with veins 4 questionable and seems at this time 17 clears. I think I need to talk with Rocky (aka roo)!!! My buff eggs seem to all be clear. Rocky tends them but I'm wondering if they are still to young? They started laying the end of July beginning of August. My past 3 hatches almost all the eggs were fertile. Not sure if something is up with Rocky. Maybe because 15 hens are too much for him? He tends them all but by my candling says different.
