6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Ron or others w/ loads of experience here is my problem--

Humidity way too much, in the air (outdoors has literally been 100%, indoors 60-70%). Never added any water to the bator at all!
I just finished this early hatch 7/64 2 of those w/ help & the worst of it is I had about another 6 that formed & might have lived but they were malpositioned enough that they could internal pip but not move to external pip :( & I didn't open them in time.

I imagine the NYD HAL eggs to be in exactly the same situation since they are same source eggs, sitting 3 ft away in the same over humid air.
At this late date, is there ANYTHING I can do to improve my odds?? I know I've got at least 15 live eggs right now w/ about 30 in the bator still out of the 68 set. Water dopplet on the eggs?, rice in the baor? or is it simply too late & I need to either expect the worst or gear up to jup in & assist hatch a bunch of stuck chicks if I want to end up w/ any real # of chicks?

I have ppl counting on me to supply some chicks for their new homestead flock, so REALLY want most # viable chicks I can achieve!!

Humidity in the incubator goes down with heat so you do not have 60% humidity in the incubator. Do yo have a hygrometer in the incubator to see what the humidity is in it? My guess is that the humidity in the incubator would be close to 40% with room humidity being what you have. 40% should be fine for incubating and the most common cause of hatch problems like you are describing is from temperature in the incubator not being correct. Usually too low but it could be too high.

mal positioned is used to determine when they died, so look at the hat analyzer and check into causes of chick death on day 16 to 18. Chicks are not like human babies that get stuck during labor. Labor and hatching from an egg are very different. One big difference is that an egg has all it is going to have for hatching when the hen lays it. Babies are connected to a Mom and get food and nutrition for her.

The best thing to do is to get a good thermometer and a hygrometer. If humidity is an issue, then the incubator can be place in a small room and a de humidifier can be used to lower humidity in the room. Oz had to do that in the Philippines.

So, I've had my hatcher waiting for days.. I really need room on the turner in my bator.

My humidity in the bator has been low this whole time (like 25-30).. Would it be okay to go ahead an move the NYE eggs to the hatcher and gradually increase the humidity? My thoughts are:

1) I can still turn them through tomorrow, just by tilting the hatcher side-to-side

2) this way I can gradually increase humidity, I'm thinking maybe shoot for 35-40 today then on up to 60 when I feel it's time? That will also keep from going from too-low to high all at once, I'm thinking.

3) that will make room on turner.

Am I thinking this through okay? Pretty sure I am but I Don't want to screw up this close to the end!!

As long as the hatcher is the correct temperature and the eggs are turned until day 18 it should be fine.
