I LOVE sizzles!!!! If we ever move somewhere with more space they will be my project. We have a few that we hatched out from our Cochin's and silkies. Mostly F1 and a couple F2. We just adore them. They don't have the biggest crest, but they are so sweet!

That is Butterball, a young pullet. I love her white against black skin. And get blue earlobes are so fancy, lol

Aww, now you have me really excited about these babies..all 8 that I bought, went into lock down. All viable! The gal that I bought the eggs from has some beautiful blues..light blue. Hope to get a couple of those, in girls. :D

We are planning a houdan x silkie cross.

Now you may be onto to something here. I have tried, and friends that have tried to keep the houdans..not a very easy breed to keep..at least not for us. The silkie though, has always done well here. A mix.. I need to see a photo of that, and see how they are doing as the grow.

My other 8 went into lock down this morning. Will be interesting to see who hatches first between the two different days. Well, actually, one batch was set last night. Wouldn't be surprised if one of the ones I set this morning hatch early..there are a couple with pretty high air cells..sometimes, just sometimes, those babies pop out of there...and what a relief it is!

our houdan cockeral is always up to no good. He is 22 weeks old now. His hormones are making him crazy. But he looks pretty cool.

ok so last egg turning before lockdown at noon! starting to work on getting my humidity right gets to 50% humidity in about 10/15 minutes, gona use a cotton t-shirt wick which should get my humidity to 65%..and got to make a dollar store run for a straw so can add waters thru vent hole later if needed.......

It will be fine. Paper towels in the water channels will raise humidity. I will likely need to add a storage container with a sponge in it. I will be locking down late because I had to start late. We will be having dry weather then so getting humidity up will be a challenge.

And it's lockdown.......

Not getting too excited as it's just ONE egg, the lone farmers market survivor.

If I'm fortunate, at least one of the remaining two late-in-the-mail eggs will join this one in a couple of days.
Hopefully won't have any solo chicks to contend with (at least not for long)

"One is the loneliest number....." (thank you, Three Dog Night)
That egg looks so lonely!

I combine them up to two weeks old so hopefully you will have some company for the chick?

Okay, so I found a nest that a hen had left, so I put them in the bator. So far one has hatched and a few more look like they might in the next few days!

Ate they chickens or Pea Hens? Remember, it did not happen unless we see a picture....

Locked and Loaded!
Someone posted that they did not have room for the spot check in their Ocatgon 20. See, the probe goes down the vent hole! I would take it out now though--try to get as much air flow at hatch as possible. All vents pulled and open!

Can't..... open..... bator.....

But I want to candle again! LOL

If you do not see pips, you can open the incubator and candle. Bama stopped fining us so all is good....
