6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

I just had to know so I lifted Beverly's feathers just in front of her wing and I saw a little black fuzzy! Beverly is white and brown and I know from the egg that this is a chick from my black english bantam Kasidy. The chick wasn't moving so I poked it ever-so-gently and it immediately perked up and started pecking at the ground. First one is here and so far so good!

The egg just next to the little chick was pipped. Trying not to be too intrusive so resisted looking at the rest of them. How often should I check on her?

I set 14. 2 broke when my turkey caught the broody bug and decided to clumsily climb into the same nest with Beverly. 2 were clear when I candled at day 10. 1 is here and 9 to go! How can I be calm at a time like this?!?
I know it is hard to resist but a broody does her thing best when we just let her do it! I would let her sit tight and hatch them all. Chances are god she could hatch them all without interference. This is the hardest part to wait through! I am trying to distract my self with projects!

Someone posted that they did not have room for the spot check in their Ocatgon 20. See, the probe goes down the vent hole! I would take it out now though--try to get as much air flow at hatch as possible. All vents pulled and open!
Thanks Ron!
I pulled the thermometer, but now I'm having thermometer withdrawal. I have checked that thing a gazillion times a day for 18 days and keep going to look at it and having anxiety attacks when it is blank! Since the thermometer that came with it was bad and I couldn't get the cheap hygrometer I got to work right, I am now just trusting everything will work like it is supposed to! Water is in the channels with felt to increase surface area. No condensation in the incubator...yet. Fingers crossed!
What is the name of a good dependable hygrometer that would fit in an eco 20? Does anybody have one?
I hope there isn't a fine for occasionally sticking the spot check thermometer in the hole, cause I will be fined! This is nerve wracking.

Thanks darkbluespace! Ok, you've talked me into leaving her be. Projects is a good idea. I had planned on working today but I was so excited I finished 4 hours of work in less than 3... I should have had something else lined up.

I'm going to force myself to go out and work in the garden.

I imagine there are a lot of excited BYC members these days!

Gardening is good! I have lumber on top of my car to finish my incubator and frame out a new duck house with fenced area... they are a little too free range right now!
