6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Quote: I have been on some threads that Neal post on. I can't quite get a handle on the language use, sentence structure and etc. It is similar to a non native speaker type of structure.

He does not intend to insult us but still it seems insulting, if that makes any sense. It reminds me of language mis understandings we see between American speakers and Australians. I have seen some big problems there.

Okay Bazy,
Let's go through your comments one at a time. Inordinate refers to the fact that you used a run-on series of abbreviations in one shot. ROTFLMBO was the one. Not a criticism but rather an observation. I'm betting that you might be one of those so-called texters who use the abbreviations in communications rather than the full words. Just a guess. Oh, I'm sure that there might be a few others of the texting ilk who prefer to not use full words and resort to thumb banging shortcuts instead. We older folks prefer the old fashioned way of broad based and complete understanding. Besides one reaches a broader audience using the complete word. And what purpose does it serve to use arcane abbreviations if the reader has to spend time deciphering them? It sure does not speed up communication nor understanding. The use of the word arcane says that the use of such is limited to understanding by only a few. So I meant "why bother" if understanding by an audience is limited to a few? One cannot embarrass nor offend another. Think about it. One has to choose to be offended or embarrassed. In short, each of us is incapable of offending another if the recipient refuses to be offended. In short, you are in control of your emotions and the rest of us are in control of ours. Thus I did not succeed in embarrassing you or anybody else nor was that my goal given that it is impossible to do so. I'm glad that you have decided to eschew acronyms; great choice! I was merely suggesting that wider understanding is achieved by avoiding abbreviations geared for a limited audience. I hold you in no negative criticism. So maybe you just might consider that you elected, unnecessarily to be a bit thin skinned. Friends again?
Sincerely,
Neal, the Zooman

Some people use acronyms a lot. The Military and government are good at it. Some people use big words. Some don't. I enjoy the mix. Never put off by either. If there is an acronym I don't know I enjoy trying to figure it out by the context of the conversation. If I can't I'm not afraid to ask. I love words big and small. I love them all.

Many acronyms have been around since the 40's, right?

Regarding the title of this thread, I think I have one Muscovy egg that I will set today. Maybe I'll raise the temp 0.5° and see if I can speed up the process by one day.
