6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

They do look a little like that. But usually the thick part is a little more globby looking. No they didn't just start they have been laying for a while now.

Ok, I'll message her. Is it likely that only those two would have the worms or the illness? They are normally in the main flock with the other birds, and they all lay big, beautiful, perfectly uniform eggs.

I'm unsure what else I can do to increase nutrition. They are given wheat and BOSS sprouts in the morning. They freerange all day (although the pickings are slimmer this time of year), and then are given fermented feed in the evening before they go to roost. The FF is 1/2 Layena Layer Pellets (16% protien, high calcium) and 1/2 Bryant flockraiser type (24% protien, low calcium). They also have free choice oyster shell, all eggshells are fed back to them (they much prefer these to the oyster shell

) and they have unfettered access to the compost pile. Oh, and ACV in their water.

Haven't gotten pics of eggs yet. Will do so after I have dinner.
Your are doing very well with them!

Sometimes a chicken or two will be the ones that show symptoms. All of them would need to be treated though.

Contests:

1. Best Hatch Rate

First Prize: Pita Pinta, Arkansas Blue and\or Partridge Penedesenca Hatching eggs (Courtesy of @ronott1 )
Second Prize: BYC 2014 Calendar

For this contest during this hatch,
participants will need to be setting a minimum of 6 eggs, with confirmation picture posted to this thread on set day

These can be under broodies or in your incubators. Tell us how many you will have cooking and then don't go back and edit your post where you tell us how many eggs you start with. We'll need that info

to be included in the contest. When the hatch is over,
you'll take a pic and post it to show us how many
you actually hatched.
The picture must be of sufficient quality to count all the chicks.
In the event of a tie, the one who hatches the most chicks wins.

Umm, what's wrong with this picture?

Hatch rate is determined by the percentage you had successfully hatch. So if 2 people have a 100% hatch rate, for example, but 1 hatched 30 and one hatched 10, the one who hatched 30 would win.
