6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

On a far brighter note. My pens are all covered with wire or netting. Today, my husband and son...in the rain and after working all day... put up plywood covers or structures in all three that needed it. We are expecting a big ol storm and I know my birds will be able to at least get out of and out from under their coops. My guys are amazing!

My eggs are somewhere between Petaluma CA and Lakeport CA !!!:hit   Tracking info said they left Petaluma this morning at 10:38  a.m.  but when I went to the Lakeport  PO at 4:10 pm they were not yet there.   The two towns are just 2.25 hours apart!!!

I am sure they will show up tomorrow morning early but I am so bummed that they are spending that much more time in transit and becoming a bit more viable with every minute in transit.  Living where I live I am beginning to think I should not even try to hatch shipped eggs.  But then I rethink.  If I get  even 1 chick out of this it will be fantastically worth it.   Even if I get zippo I will only be sorry for my broody.   And if that happens I will be contacting all y'all   Northern CA types  @Kaylish
  and @ronott1
to fix her up with some chicks from you hatches :D

Hope they arrive safely and hatch well. I am setting some bantam cochin/silkie mixes. They are pullet eggs but I'm hopeful. They are yours if you need them.

Thanks a million! I may be making a NY weekend trip to Chico but I kinda hope not.

This might be a little early, but would anyone be interested in having a Valentine's Day HAL?? I think I'm gonna try to do my first hatch then so I have plenty of time between now& then to build an incubator ( or two) and save eggs and basically just be a little more organized& prepared. I'd be glad to organize a Valentine's Day HAL, if someone would wanna help me with it.

Oh honey! I don't need holidays to incubate! Heck I will count back 21 days and see what hatches! LOL!

Two more contests have been added!

5. Farthest shipped eggs that hatch
Prize: a book of stamps courtesy of @Peep_Show

For Farthest Shipped Egg - Successful Hatch

6. Worst hatch rate

Prize: Minature egg basket courtesy of @Peep_Show

For this contest during this hatch,
participants will need to be setting a minimum of 6 eggs, with confirmation picture posted to this thread
.
These can be under broodies or in your incubators.Tell us how many you set and then let us know how many hatched(or did not hatch....) We'll need that info
by the 3rd of Jan at the latest
to be included in the contest. The picture must be of sufficient quality to count all the chicks.
In the event of a tie, the one who set the most chicks wins.

Thanks @Peep_Show

My pleasure, Ron!

Folks with shipped eggs, your city/state and the egg shipper's city/state will be needed for the Farthest Shipped Egg Hatched contest. Provide the info when you PM Ron with your egg counts, please.
Thanks!

Ok I'm confused! (Shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who knows me here lol) are we taking pictures of the eggs we set and posting them here? Or are we sending them to Ron in pm? I just set the other 2 dozen RIR eggs.... Do I need to take a picture of them too? Maybe I just need to go to bed and start rereading everything tomorrow lol

You are fine!

This time we will not be posting pictures of the eggs set--we will be posting pictures of the chicks that hatch though!(mostly because we love baby pictures...)

If we posted the pictures of the eggs set, it would mess up the guess the number that are set contest.

Yes, send me a PM with the eggs set to hatch number.

should I leave my bator going n place the eggs prewarmed up tomorrow or turn the bator off let it cool n place room temp eggs into cooled bator?

also have fairly four fairly dirty eggs leave it or use damp cloth to wipe off lightly?

and only cuz it's making me batty(over so many differing temp ranges n humidity ranges) just confirm humidty 30ish until 18 day then 50/60's? check air cell size? temp 99.5 to 11 wilh a puter fan moving the air inside the bator?
