6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

I candled tonight because I am a candle -holic

I did see some veins in one of the Silkie eggs (love those light colored eggs that are easy to candle) and dark bottoms on my Marans eggs which is a good sign.

Can't wait for day 7 to come around so I will know for sure how many eggs are growing. I use the Brinsea high intensity OvaView candler and don't take the eggs out of the incubator, just hold the light on the top of the eggs.

holy moley, this thread does move FAST! I just got caught up. As requested, here is a picture of Houdini brooding me some adorable ducklings. I am hoping for 100% hatch, I have a LOT of interest in them already!

She squeeks at me when I stick the top half of my body in her igloo, but has never bit me and is very patient with my curiosity. Her first brood, mine as well.

Oh I can't wait for my ducks to lay eggs! Maybe I'll have a broody and incubate some at the same time and pawn my hatch off on the mama duck

I was so busy freaking out about chicken eggs that I forgot ducks lay eggs too.... She surprised me. And of course she wanted to go broody right away. We took a few at the beginning to taste them and they are delicious. I am excited for the hatch, I candled some today and they have all gone dark like they are supposed to.
