6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

With what I've read on here....you have got to be sure you don't contaminate the little perishes.......I figured tyvek suit would cover any germ on my clothing from everything that clings to them during the coarse of the day. rubber gloves covering all germs and nasty oils on my hands. Mask to eliminate the chance of breathing air born germs into the cells of the eggs. Now the safety glasses are to protect my eyes from any stinky exploding eggs and protect the eggs from my HAPPY tears when I see spider veins in them.

Dang it ...I forgot my shoe covers and hair net....Looks like I'm not quite ready yet !!!!!!!!!!!
JK I do wear a rubber glove on one hand .... but that is all

That is an awesome offer but I must decline.  I was only joking when I said you could pay for the "insult" with eggs.  You don't owe me anything.  Thank you for the gesture though!

On a personal and somewhat sappy and pretty serious note:  I've been a member of BYC for a very long time but until this HAL, I rarely posted in here.  I usually just used the site for research and opinions.  Now, I am sorry that I didn't become a more active participant sooner.  The camaraderie is great!  If I could only join one club in my life, (besides a Christian club), it would definitely be this one!  Thank you all for making this enjoyable and for creating an environment that is positive, fun and educational!

Oh and @bamadude
, you can keep the used tobacco since at this point I'm sure I'll have the worst hatch rate.  :plbb

If u won't to his offer on the eggs, I will!! Lol I'll take some free eggs

Some of us just can't hatch in the middle of winter and have to wait for Spring to join in the fun!!
I bet you read the daily digest? Boy is it hard to keep up for that--I have to go through the daily posts twice sometimes.

Don't tell my broodies that walk around the coop eating, drinking and pooping and then returning to their nests with dirty feet......how do they ever manage to hatch chicks while being such germ bearers?!

I will be hatching on that one too. I have to spread out my hatches because I'm limited on space to put them as they my grow. I will have to add that this is for my personal hatches for myself. I try to hatch for myself on New Years, Easter and what I call birthday hatch. I try to get one as close to my birthday as possible, I like hatching on Thursdays that just works for me. I usually sake a few from these hatches. I'm trying to build up my hen numbers, so I am trying to keep all pullets that hatch in these hatches.

I checked on my broody's eggs this afternoon and she's apparently lost one... I have no idea where it went. There isn't even a shell left. Her pen is predator proof. That one pen even has 1/4 inch hardware cloth instead of the 1/2 inch that I usually use...

This is just a fantastic time of year to hatch though, after the buzz of Christmas we then have hatching to look forward to and celebrate together! So much fun!
