When are you going to candle the platypus eggs? I'm excited to see the babies.

I have my own run i bought at TSC with a cat box inside which i call my "broody coop" its a simple set up and i can send pics if youd like.

I wait for the eggs to hatch and block off he entrance of the coop so no bird can go in from pipped to hatch times so its just the momma and the babies. Then i move my broody and the chicks to the broody coop. I can post something on youtube for you too! Just let me know
I actually legit wear a chicken suit when i candle... Its pretty classy

i will not candle....until day 18 1/2..then i will take out the bad eggs and the tumble turd beetles (redneck egg turners)

now I went to TSC and saw this baby was on sale so I bought it and put it together. all it is, is a run attachment to a coop TSC sells, so if your too lazy to build something its on sale again tight now... http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/sto...extension-pen-2-chicken-capacity-105083199--1 haha
it works great for me and all I so is simply set it up in the run of my big coop and put a few heavy bricks on top, and out two large square stones you can find at home depot and those stores. then I just put the cat box on that. I also put wood on top of it to allow shade. its a bit shabby, but works great when moving the chicks into the coop. all you have to do is open the door, and BAM. theyre included in the flock.
I had a few broody fights when I would first let them out...the mom just protecting her chicks and stuff, but its normal.

right now since I don't have any broodys hatching at the moment the pen is outside of the coop. I still have bricks on top and the cat box in because I use it for Mr. Indie, who got the name independent for a reason...LOL he loves by himself in an elevated coop and I let him out for a few hours a day in he run and kinda tractor it around. since we have a really bad hawk problem I wouldn't want my poor boy to get snatched up, so this is a great tractor as well.


im aiming to get indie a really cool coop from TSC or build him a mansion like a dog huge I saw at petsmart...LOL

also, ive considered using these dog houses bc they are almost like a coop, and they seem great.

I have got to get a better flashlight or a better candler. The ones I have just didn't show much. The Silkie eggs were easy to see but the dark tan and light brown, forget it.

very cool!! I need to decide soon which plate I am going to get or if I want to use the heat lamp I have. Please keep us posted on your thoughts once you plug it in and it starts heating things up.

ok I will! haha I feel the pressure....so many are relying on me...and this bator...LOL

one thing I saw was that you can put that laminate stuff of top in a square to protect from poo. and once the chicks are done, you just peel it off!
