6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

It is not required but we do like to see how things are going.

Good luck all!

Soon we will have

I sure hope so!
I was 2 hours late turning this morning, and the temp at the top of the eggs was 103! Again! After I've turned the incubator down 3 times! I turned it down again. My incubator has a definite hot spot. I have all the eggs in the middle, I wonder if I should move them to the outside, like a ring. How long after a temp spike will I know if any were, um... cooked? I'm going to candle tonight (yes, I cheated and candled on day 5, but I'm doing it again today!

)

If anyone can get good pics of candling today, I'd love to see them, just to compare to what I'm seeing.

Also, I set 8 more eggs today in my "new" 40-year-old Lyons dome type incubator. So, we'll see how that goes, lol! They are Silkie mixes, so I'm super excited. I think the Silkie mixes make the cutest chickens!

Nothing wrong with cheating. It was just my personal goal to wait. Plus, I've been really busy. My alarm didn't go off this morning and I overslept an hour and a half. I'm only on here because I'm eating breakfast. Just had 2 cancellations due to the rain! My day got easier.

I just started incubating this year, so exploding eggs was a new concept for me. It didn't sweat or seep and didn't have much of a smell. Since it was under a turkey for who knows how long, I wasn't sure if it was smelling from rott or poo.

Yes! That's a Shiba Inu. That's Quick. He's my 3rd Shiba and #4 is in training (although she may never be reliable enough to trial). I'll brag on Quick. He has his ADCH and was 2 QQ from his MACH when I retired him (his choice). He's now 2 Chances Q's from his NATCH, but at almost 12 years, he's decided to run agility his way, so I doubt we'll get it. Plus, those elite chances are so hard and we don't get to play NADAC too much. Sorry you asked? I love talking about Quick and all my dogs. Post a pic of your Shiba.

Not sorry I asked at all! lol! Here's a pic of Cato, our Shiba. He's very well behaved, but not obedient in the least! Next to him is a tiny, felted version that I made out of wool.

By the way, (shameless self-promotion) I'm donating the prize for Cutest Chick, a needle felted chicken!

I've never shipped eggs but if you are interested in LF bbs orps or Buff Brahmas I'd send you some.  I've received shipped eggs so I think I can pack them fine just haven't been through the shipping process.

*bouncing in chair**stretching and waving hand wildly as high as she can reach*

Oh oh ohhhhhhh! For Brahma eggs, I am sure I can find something incredibly mean/ hurtful (to me) you've said in the last 100+ pages!

Not that you're a mean person!!! Just... the "payoff" would be worth the effort, lol. ;)

I pulled a few blood rings and lots of clears. Most of the clears were from the same pen or were older than 7 days. But still I marked a few more as ?. I'm down to a bit more than half of what I started with. And I might be changing roosters around if I keep getting clears.

Hours of daylight lowers rooster fertility too--Give him more time.

Oh My gosh. This thread moves at lightning speed. There is no way I can keep up. Well maybe after tomorrow when I take my first semester nursing school finals. Well today was day 7 for me and I just candled!

I have 4 black/black bantam cochin and 4 silver/gold laced wyandotts, so I am really excited to see what I get. I just had 2 black/black bantam cochins hatch Sunday and this is what I got. Somehow it has white and almost looks mottled. I guess we will see as it grows, it's still the cutest, tiniest little thing. I can't wait to hopefully have 4 more at new years. I also have a few in the bator for a Christmas hatch next week that are doing great.
Congrats

I will attest that the flashlight recommended by Bama is da bomb, although I haven't tried it on caskets yet (and not gonna)

Of the farmers markets eggs set I pulled 9 as being totally clear (eggtopsy confirmed this), 1 Ameraucana/RIR egg is questionable and so will be left to percolate a little more, a dozen EE eggs are too dark and thick to see veins but the yolks are plenty dark, and one RIR egg has a little guy in there bobbing about and waving. It was sad to chuck the Andalusian eggs as I really wanted the blue birds. However, I have a bunch of BLRW and blue Marans that were set on Saturday that I'm looking forward to seeing who's onboard with their later candling.
Can it candle GOATS? Bama didn't cover that in his post

If it does I'm getting one tonight !!!!!! Even though I don't own goats.....
