Yes, today is day 7 and it feels heavy. I haven't candled it yet today. It has a dent in it too though so would that be bad?

Go ahead and candle to see if you have a live chick, then use the polish..works well often. :)
Oh, if you don't like the idea of polish, you can use was, like candle wax. Also works well. If there is a live chick, after using the polish or wax tonight, candle again tomorrow or the next day and see how the chick is doing.

Down to only one egg in the HAL. I'm not surprised, since I only started with two, and we had a power outage, but still a bit disappointing :(

These eggs are amazing!! Do you show your birds as well? I would love to see your birds.

No I have never shown yet. We are planning on showing some this coming year. All out birds are now exhibition lines.

This is some not so good pictures . But remember there is no such a thing as a perfect bird. All have faults . You just strive to improve on the quality of them and keep a standard.

OMGoodness! Beautiful! I like the tail set and nice wide backs on these birds.

Here is the picture of the damaged egg. I candled it and it does have veins . What do I do? What do I do? :( Will nail polish fix this?
Personally, with the location of the damage, I'd feel better about wax.. Maybe even clear tape?? Others will have more cracked-egg exp than me though. Good luck!!

Candled and tossed 4 very clear non-starters. Pretty high fertility for this time of year and chilly weather. There were a few I wasn't entirely sure on, but I left them. I always pencil sketch the air sac edge onto the shell so I can be sure they are progressing correctly next time I candle. Anyone else do that?

that leaves 38 eggs in the bator and only 6 chicks spoken for out of this first hatch.

. DH is being quite the enabler. He keep telling me to set more eggs. I had to remind him that the turner is full. I told him that to continuous hatch I'd need a dedicated hatcher. Now he wants to make one. Pretty sure that will end up being this weekend's project so I can get it up and running and test how well it holds humidity and temp. If it holds well, I might hatch port of my HAL eggs in there - not all of them though - just in case.

I'm thinking of of taking a a big thick styro cooler like they use to ship fish to pet stores and a 150 watt rough service bulb and some hardware cloth to make the thing. I kinda want to get a dollar store photo frame to make a window in the top cause I just gotta be able to see what is going on during hatching. Pretty sure I can make it for next to free with mostly stuff we already have. Anyone got any good tips who have built one?
