OMGoodness! Beautiful! I like the tail set and nice wide backs on these birds.
Gorgeous eggs!I just pulled out 15 of original 68 eggs. (Fully recharged flashlight shed some real light on the situation tonight!) Now there are still a few dark ones w/ ? things going on inside, & a couple others I'm going to re-check day10 b/c I'm hoping they aren't BR already. Overall I'm pleasantly surpized so many of the really OLD eggs are actually still in the bator, about 3 doz. what I'm not so happy about is that _several_ of the ones I pulled were my own fresh eggs w/ Blood Rings? not too happy about that & not sure what is going on...will be changing out the hay in the nest boxes first thing in the am tomorrow b/c I really don't like that any of those fresh eggs of mine were apparently "not so fresh" : ( yikes!! & those decoy eggs (golf balls) those are going for a bleach bath. ORIGINAL EGGS PIC:Interestingly there is no pattern to the bad eggs in re: placement in bator, so w/ tilting & switching the upper level eggs 3x the heat appears to be reasonably even in the ancient still air LG.
Wow! This is impressive.I had an egg look just like this, a broody stepped on her egg. I used melted plain unscented white candle wax. Not poured directly on but smoothed on with my finger. I put it in the incubator and it hatched just fine.![]()

@Bama, fingernails make you queasy but not homemade tobacco?
@ronott1
Just out of curiosity, how did you pick the random post?
Did you;
- Wait until a certain day then do a random drawing of the total posts or;
- Choose a random number between 1 and a hoped for total posts or;
- Some other method?
Michaelf chose the post number.
When I chose, I used a random number generator to pick a number within a range. There is also a second number picked in case the winner declines.
When I read this post I thought, "Hey, how did he win? He got to choose the winning number!"Cool I won!! Thank you!! Thank you!!![]()
I hope it hatches for you and goes on to bring you many many more wonderful babies!!!Down to only one egg in the HAL. I'm not surprised, since I only started with two, and we had a power outage, but still a bit disappointing![]()
And people please clean your fingernails before taking close up pics. I get grossed out easilly
Yes, you are so totally easily grossed out.If that busted egg makes a chick...i will eat its first 5 turds
I just found out cynthia is rons mother in law
Michael is his cousin
Wait, you hatched the same eggs more than once??? Do you keep re-hatching them until you get a specific breed?The eggs are white shelled--last time I hatched them they were Leghorns.
I am, 12 Muscovy Duck eggs.Have many of you set duck eggs? My search results for this thread don't come up with many posts about people who are hatching them for the HAL.
i still have one doe in heat and the 4 bucks are acting like lunatics and the one nigerian buck smells so soo bad, almost like a skunk at this point. The other 3 busk still just smell musky. We have babies that should be dropping in the next month and some due for febuary i believe and then a couple for march, hard to keep track of with 20+ goats.We have goats too. Will see the firsr week of Jan if the heats are over....fingers crossed the bucks will stop peeing on themselves.
i didnt know we were suppose to guess....where am i missing this stuff?The winner of the number of eggs set contest is:
@michaelf with a guess of 2247.
2360 eggs were reported as being set for the hatch a long.
Quote: Contests are listed in Post #1 of this thread. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/936421/6th-annual-byc-new-years-day-2015-hatch-a-long
