6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Candles my eggs, 3 out of 16 silkies where good, 4 out of 7 bantams where good. The brown, blue/green eggs who are mutts cannot see threw them but the two white ones where good.

Does this count as a HAL egg?

OMG I am freaking out. Anyone who knows me on Facebook please tell no one, not even husband knows yet! (Thinking Christmas shocker as we have 4 already....)

So while my chicken HAL eggs don't seem to be doing well, this human one sure does!
Congratulations!!!

I am seriously scared about this so thank you all for helping me make light of this and celebrate! :)

Celebrate! (You can freak out after the munchkin hatches)

Congratulations Book! You could stick the pregnancy test in his stocking that's a good stocking stuffer

Lol! Fun idea

Oh yes. The carton with a chick in it would be a dead giveaway of fertile eggs.

LOL! That would be a new one!

Okay, I love those pictures. Bama that is a very bright light.
But I do want to be clear and make sure I am not mistaken here.... Did you really just inform the members on this thread that you MARRIED @bamadude? So
what we have to put up with on this thread, you have to live with day in and day out? You poor thing !!!!!
Just kidding Bama, You are a lot of fun
I'm not sure I would admit to that...

Congrats. Shake some of that "baby dust" in a vial and rig a contest so I win it okay? I can hatch and rear chickens like nobodies business, but we can't seem to make a baby. Maybe that's why I have more chickens than I am supposed to (literally our town has an ordinance and I am totally in violation, but not like anyone will ever notice cause I may also have one of the largest lots in town).

All of you wondering what to candle with, I have good luck with the Farm Innovators candler from fleet farm. It came with my 'bator and turner as a kit and I can see through my blue eggs with it in a fairly darkened room. And those blue eggs have wicked thick shells. Did you know that blue eggs, the shell is actually blue, brown eggs its a pigment applied right before laying and olive is a blue shell with the brown pigment applied? Oops, went into full on chicken-nerd there for a moment.

I love chicken-nerd moments...unfortunately most people don't appreciate them like the awesome people here do!

Yep, had to toss one too..it's been a while since I've had one like this. Take this one out..if you haven't already. :p

Yep, I pulled it! Does anyone know what causes this? Is it the yolk is broken and seeps out or is it because of bacteria or something else? Just trying to learn as much as I can. I will candle again on Monday as I may have a blood ring in one too, but since I'm new I can't be sure if that is what I am seeing. I have a really good sense of smell but haven't noticed any of them smelling funny.
