6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Whoop whoop...can't believe it's next week already. When is it bday? Mine is the 31st...hoping for some bday babies.
I have dark eggs too...I'm going crazy. So concerned I'm not doing something right. Ahhh! Now excuse while on go run upstairs to check temp, turn and worry.
Mostly worried I'm not turning enough. Gone all day 620am-530/6pm.

Ours (both DH and I) have ours on the 29th. So probably too early for peeps.

Share the day...that's awesome! I hope you both have a great one!

I would lower the humidity--to 35%.

Sanding is risky--Misting the eggs once a day from day 8 to 18 will do the same thing--cause the eggs to lose moisture. let the eggs dry before putting the top back on. This will also let you use the cool down cycle.
Misting the eggs causes evaporation? I would have never thought of that!
Another thing I just thought of, I live at 1500ft, not exactly high altitude, but I was reading that altitude difference between where the eggs were laid and where they are hatched requires adjusting of humidity and ventilation.

Hi black goat. Yes they were shipped eggs. Two were malpostioned and one was bum facing up, so 3 really....I think lack of ventilation was the problem....seems like they all died on day 20-21. So perfectly formed :(

Question: So I have been thinking (always a bad thing ask my DW). My last batch of eggs that went so bad (shipped eggs that I paid a small fortune for) we very porous. I had all sorts of problems trying to keep the humidity down. Would the moisture from inside the egg come through the porous shells to increase humidity? It kinda makes since to me but I may be thinking wrong.

The moisture the eggs are losing does contribute to the humidity in the incubator. I rarely need to add water because the eggs often create enough humidity. Sorry about that last batch!

I have quail shaking and pecking, though I can't see a single pip yet! First quail ever so I'm excited! I have about 80 eggs in there still. How can I go to bed now?! I see I designed my schedule to be... chicks... christmas... chicks... new years... chicks... chicks... chicks...

I'm one of the families for one, will be two soon...enough..so thank you for thinking of the families too. :)

Your Welcome!

I always think of the Military Families. I was a Army Wife for 9 years, he was deployed to Iraq twice for a total of 2 1/2 years.

Then he got out of the Military and got a job that took him back over to Afghanistan for an additional 2 years. I think very highly of the military AND ALWAYS their Families.

Well, I noticed the "only 10 more days" announcement a few pages back and realized I had better get busy candling!!!

It turns out my mother has never candled eggs! *gasp* So I bundled them up and hauled them to her house (she lives in the basement apartment of my house, lol)... and she was quite impressed! She even got to see one move.

Annnnnd.... 6 of 6 seem to be doing great!
Except that the aircells aren't growing much... time to decrease humidity.

aww, that's awesome!!!
Bless her, I'm glad she got that opportunity!

Okay, just so I'm clear, I'm using a cut out flat to hold my eggs but for lock down, am I supposed to remove them from the flat and place them on the 'bator mesh or keep them in the flat and just not turn them?

I'm thinking @ronott1 said to leave them in the flat but I need to be positive.
