6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Any idea why my aircells would look on track but my weight would be about 3% more then it should be?

Air cells will get bigger without development. Maybe there are a couple of clears?

he was a quite the little stud but was sent to freezer camp due to a bad attitude)

Gee... Think the two are related?

should we be weighing the eggs? I didnt know we were supose to weigh them and check aircelll?

You do not have to weigh the eggs. It is another way to chart development. You are looking for an average moisture loss in the egg and there are charts to figure that out.

It is advanced hatching techniques.

There are a few clears, would those throw off my numbers that far though? i was waiting until day 10 to toss clears.

i am only weighing and tracking aircells because i am hatching shipped muscovy eggs and muscovy are generally known to be hard/finicky to hatch and since i can not take them out of the turner to candle them properly or weigh them until day 10...i am tracking the chicken eggs as a guide.

I would not worry about the air cell development based on what you have. Yes, the clears will through off the numbers.

Yeah, we have to be careful with our BA when my 3 yo grandson is outside playing because Big Daddy Crow doesn't like him for some reason. Maybe it's because they're close to the same size? lol
I had the same problem - my roo went after my 3 year old; and then he was gone.

Wow! 12 weeks? I wouldn't think he'd be big enough! I don't think mine are getting any action. I see one of them try to jump on the pullets that are his age, but they aren't laying yet. I don't think he's trying anything with the laying pullets. At least, not that I've seen. The second cockerel runs around like he owns the place, but I haven't seen him try to jump on anyone. The third one is low on the pecking order, the hens keep pulling out his tail feathers! So he is scared of them! And I'm still not 100% if he is a roo. lol! I thought he was a pullet up until a few days ago when I noticed his neck feathers were the same color as the other male. I will check an egg or two, in case they are being sneaky. lol!
He was a black-copper Marans and got big fast. He also was oldest roo at the time so I guess he thought he was a big boy.

Gee... Think the two are related?

My guess: YES!!!

Yeah, we're hoping to throw some babies from him first though because he's so big and meaty and looks so tasty and he's a BA and they're supposed to be such proficient layers.
