6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Our numbers are as follows...
50 eggs set
15 removed at 7 days after the first candle
3 more removed at day 14
3 more removed at day 18
Leaving 29 eggs remaining for lock down
27 hatched with 2 unresponsive eggs remaining.
We lost 1 at hatching, and had a casualty in the brooder this morning.
25 chicks remain, with pics to be posted Monday.

Congratulations!

Poor little chick!

Do you have a buddy for it?

I'm 1630 posts behind, oh well.
The hatch was not good. Got 4 live chicks out of it, they all hatched from eggs that were side by side the last week on one side of the bator , whereas the bulk of the eggs (on the opposite side) did not hatch except 1 that was a cull. So I'd say the old LG is past retirement age at this point :(

The eggs were all numbered so my fb friends could pick an egg to bet who would be the first out in 2015
as such the #4 who hopped into the lower empty slot won by default as the other 2 hatched in 2014.
The person who picked the winner gets to name the chick, I'm still waiting to find out a name, but I hear "Pipper", "Cindy" & "Gliter" are all possibly choices...

Well Happy 2015 ya'll & may all your set eggs hatch w/ as many being pullets as you hope!

Australorp number 5 has hatched and it is another blue chick.

I just saw the first pip on the Trader Joes egg!

Great news all around.

I've got a side-pip still in the bator. This is Day 23. There's a sizeable hole, I can see the chick moving, but the membrane is turning brownish black... What do?

Sorry for the quality.... I dare not open the bator for fear of shrink wrapping the poor thing (the hole was much smaller when I took the other chick out this morning), but zero progress since then and the membrane discoloration worries me.

Someone remind me to calm down and breathe.
