6wk old and 10wk old gender ID!

What makes you say that #4 is a cockerel? Trying to learn how to better sex them myself. Is it the redness around the eye, ear, and wattle? Because even #5 has some red in the comb - but definitely doesn't have those same red eye/ear/wattle.

Hopefully the polish ends up as a pullet! Are they harder to sex? Do I have to wait until 12wks for saddle/hackle with this one?
On #4 feather pattern looks male to me.

I hope that you're right about #4 - there are a couple others saying boy.. I really want that one to be a hen - its SO pretty!!
I was on the fence with that one to be honest! Hopefully I was right and she is a girl and you will get what you want!🥰

Yes Polish are right up there with Silkies when it comes to identifying their gender. Most characteristic is the shape and style of their crest. This is difficult to determine before that has grown in fully. Of course saddle feathers will give it away between 12 and 16 weeks.😊

Ah, I was about to post some silkie photos as well! I have 5 right now, 4 at 10wks and 1 at 12wks. They all look exactly the same besides coloration... lol

Hi guys - I have a few barnyard mix and a couple birds from a feed supply that I would like to get some insight on. The older ones I think are pretty obvious - just looking for some reassurance, the other three, I don't really know.

#1; ~5-6wks old barnyard mix, possible frizzle dad and barred rock mom - hoping pullet but the red scares me

#8&9 ~10wks old barnyard mix possible copper maran X barred rock - from chocolate eggs - pretty sure these guys are cockerels, sharing to compare features with #6&7 as they came from the same clutch of eggs

8 and 9 are hens I believe!
#1, #3, and #4, are most likely roos due to the color pattern and the white head spot.

Interesting that you think 8&9 could be hens - they've had large red comb and wattles since about 4-5 weeks!
I'm pretty sure they are male. If they are currently 10 weeks they should have saddle feathers start poking out in a few weeks, keep your eye out ;)

Well, I have Cuckoo Maran hens and they look just like that.
Plus roosters don't have slightly bendy combs like 8 and 9 do, hens tend to get bendy combs.

Here are a few more that I didn't get photos of yesterday!

#10&11 - entirely unsure of breed - give me a guess or an idea if you can - they came from light blue eggs, thats about all I know, barnyard mix - 5-6wks
