finally received my chicks 7 out of 26 did not make it, 2 of those i had to cull. i do have one that seems ok kinda but has one large eye, i don't know if its swollen or was pecked on, should i cull this one too? or let it go? it was rather unpleasant culling them. i lost my golden laced waynedotte and i am trying to tell if i still have my black aust. amoung the barred rocks that i have left. i will post some pics in a min. plus i can't tell which ones are really sleepy or just really weak.

they came from ideal. i don't blame them i blame the post office.

the one in center has the large eye. bad angle

this one is the only one that looks slightly different, kinda has stripes on back, again bad angle
but i am hoping it is my black aulstrope.

Ideal has a 100% live arrival guarantee. give them a call and let them know which ones died in route or within 2 days of arrival (for the one not doing good) and they will refund your money or put it towards another batch.

Just looking at the pics, it really looks as though the one with the larger eye might have been born that way. I can't see any trauma or obvious injury. You would be the one to be able to see that. I bet it is fine. Is the skull misshapen? Does it seem "lopsided"?

I do see the stripes on the darker one's back, so hopefully that is your Australorp!

Definitely call them and let them know how many died, and also let them know that one has an eye problem, whether from injury or birth.

Good Luck! I hope you don't lose anymore!

I am having the same problem I have lost 8 of my 26 and It is really starting to upset me I have almost given up any will survive. all conditions are exactly the same as my first batch. I too think that the post office has somthing to do with it. Have we no recorse because it really makes you leary to order new ones. Although the chicks do not appear as large as my first batch so maybe it is a combo.

some of them seemed to lean a bit and couldnt quite get their footing, I am just not sure what went or is going wrong.
