7 Dead Chicks

Well I'm sad to say my auction chicks are dropping like fly's.it sstarted with the one then one looked fine yesterday was sick this morning and dead this after noon . I have 2 that are droopy I started the sulfadimethoxine yesterday, my question is the sick chicks are 4 and 5 weeks old in a heated brooder about 100 yards from my 10 week old chicks that are healthy, I've been spraying myself with Lysol and washing my hands like I have ocd how likely is it that the healthy older chicks will get cocidious? I'm disabled and my chickens make my day bright ,that was until I was dumb enough to buy from a auction

Have you been feeding them any hard boiled egg's as there
is plenty of niacin protein vitamin B-3 for the chicks in there
one to two egg's a day for a week and see if there is any
difference and what they do not finish toss and never keep
till later .......

The sulfadim won't treat all strains of cocci. You need to start everyone on corid . Just plain old buttermilk will buy you some time while you source the corid. What an awful predicament to be in.
I hope that you can on top of this. Do you have someone that can help you?

I just can't drive, I have money to get it .I have them quarantined and I spray my shoes with Lysol and wash my hands I will get the corid in the morning, the vet ordered the sulfadim she doesn't do birds nor does anyone within a 50 mile radius but she suggested this she looked it up on the web.thank you.do you think my older birds will be OK being 100 yards away and using the precautions I've been doing I don't think I can handle any more loss

Yes : I have been feeding them boiled eggs and the chicks eat it even the sick ones , those are beautiful chicks makes me sad because mine were that cute

I personally would treat everyone. Its fairly user friendly, just add to the water. Can you get someone to pick up some buttermilk for you in the meantime?

I got some corid this morning and also gave a little butter milk and boiled eggs their all eating and cleaning their self's again there were 2 all fluffed up and standing with their eyes closed but a little more active today and the ones sneezing with puffy eyes are way better thank you for being so nice and talking to me and the advice .

Don't give the buttermilk at the same time you are treating with Corid. Buttermilk can be helpful to slow the advance of coccidiosis if you don't have any meds to treat it by coating the intestines. So you don't want to have that going on when you are treating with Corid, you want to make sure the cocci protozoa is fully exposed to the Corid.

Those two that are a little slower, you might get an eyedropper and give them the medicated water directly every couple hours the first day or so. Often when they feel crummy they do not drink enough on their own.

Good news, hope they continue to improve . As cafarmgirl said , cease the buttermilk now that you have the corid. It was just to help coat their stomaches and relieve some of the pain. In a couple of weeks , after treatment it would be beneficial to give them a good Greek yoghurt or a probiotic powder on their food, just to get the good bugs back working in the gut.

Their all in the clear I'm keeping them quarantined for another two weeks,their huge now!acv every other week,and garlic .thanks so much for the advice I prayed hard that they wouldn't die or have to be culled
