7 Months and No Eggs

My barred rock, at 24 weeks, just gave her first egg (and her second, too. . . good girl). . . but the RIR, same age, not even squating yet. . . . I think they are "individuals". . . .

Yes, definitely thanks for the moral support. Lately it feels like we'll never see an egg and we're horrible farmers!
I've even been telling my kids to stop cuddling them so much thinking maybe they're getting handled too much! They are some spoiled birds, I can tell you that!

I'm glad I'm not the only one in this boat! My hens are 21 and 23 weeks and I haven't seen anything! Mine are in a large but enclosed pen as well so it's not like they're hiding them. I hope they start soon, it's starting to get chilly here. I guess they will lay when they are ready!

I've got 4 Wyandottes that are giving me egg-laying fits. They are going on 30 weeks. It seemed that one hen started laying an egg every other day, but now I haven't had an egg from their pen in well over a week. There isn't much place to hide eggs either, so I don't get it.

Yay yay yay!
I got my first egg today!
Had to keep them in all day
Both yesterday and today
Day one they nested in the hay
And today one hen did lay
But at what time of day?
and is it the same time every day?
Now that they've nested will they stay?
If I let them out early will they go astray
and lay their eggs farther away?
I'm just so happy and gay
that I got my first egg today!

woolymama, I'm praying for you! My EEs are not laying well either, though a couple of them have laid, they just don't seem to have the egg engines that my RIRs do.

Are they squatting at all?

I'd try giving them more protein. A good handful of cat food (not too much) per day might do them good. Sometimes that works.

They should be squatting though...

You are not doing anything wrong. They will lay when they are ready. They will lay at different times of the day. Did you have all your children at the same time of day? My girls lay at all times of the day. Even the same birds lay at different times.
