I am new to this... My chicks are about 7 weeks old. All of a sudden one of them seemed a little puffy and very lethargic! Doesn't seem to be eating or drinking on her own. I opened the coop door this morning and everyone came out except her. She just keeps sleeping and she'll even fall asleep right in my hand as I'm holding her! Looked around for bloody poop, couldn't fine any. What do I do?!

Sorry it took so long to respond.

Keep her warm, hydrated, and supply her with vitamins and electrolytes. I would suggest getting her on corid, just to make sure it isn't coccidia, as coccidia is a quick killer.

Best of luck!

You can find Corid powder in the cattle section of your local TSC. Give 1 and a half teaspoons per gallon of water and make fresh daily. Treat the whole flock and give for 5 to 7 days. Do not add any vitamins or electrolytes and make sure the medicated water is the only source of water they are getting. After the 5 to 7 days, decrease the Corid to a 1/3 of a teaspoon per gallon of water and continue to make fresh daily for at least a week. You will do this for the whole flock as well.

She probably has coccidia. Corid will treat her. Do not give her vitamins while you are treating her with Corid .

I've never used corid, so thank you for the warning not use vitamins with it, but could you still give vitamin rich foods like scrambled eggs?

Any nutritious food would be good. After a week of the Corid treatment, then you can give vitamins and probiotics for a few days. Only if you think she is still sick will you need to continue the Corid for another week.

Thanks for the advise!

I have had to tube feed my 8 week old chicks that have Coccidia. Coccidia makes them feel terrible and they don't eat/drink. Be aggressive in making sure she is hydrated.
Weigh her, if you have food scale, every day. She needs minimum 10% of body weight every day of food and/or water.
What ever you have, dehydration can causes weakness and leave them vulnerable to something else.

Thank you all for your advice. Unfortunately little Pearl didn't make it. :( so upsetting for my first loss.
