I have 7 week old chicks right now and 10 of them are my BR Roo packing peanuts and they all have the huge combs that are bright red. Do EE roos develop their combs at the same time? I have 1 pullet (i only ordered pullets but i know things can happen) but he/she is so much bigger than the rest of the EE's that came with it and the comb is turning red. The comb isn't big it's almost like a bump but it is red. The other EE's are also starting to get red bumps too. Are they all roos?

Also i have heard that you can sex them by their fethers. What am I looking for at 7 weeks? Could someone post a picture or direct me to another posting? Thanks!

So this is the one that I named momma because "she" was always taking care of the other pullet chicks and she was so much bigger than the rest. I am guessing this one is a roo.

Here is another one of momma

I am pretty sure this one is a pullet

. BR roos combs should be a single stand up type comb.. and ameracaunas/ EEs combs most likely are rose rombs, so they WONT be as tall sticking up...
not sure about comb color.. but sometimes the legs on the roos will be thicker looking than the pullets...
the roos will have pointy neck feathers and saddle feathers

pictures would help

Your Barred Rocks or black sex-link in that photo looks like a cockerel. The first and third EE are definitely pullets and the middle one, "Momma" looks like a cockerel to me, but I'd give him some more time to develop to be sure.

Generally speaking about all breeds, the males' combs will begin to turn pink and red much sooner than the females. That is a generalization though.

You may also see pointed hackle and saddle feathers coming in as well, but I can't tell if your "momma" has pointed saddle feathers from the angle of the picture.

I agree the EEs are pullet, cockerel, pullet.....

The saddle feathers will begin to come in on the back about where a saddle would go if they wore them

LOL

Here's a pic to help....

The ones on the ends were from the saddle area of 2 pullets and the other 3 were from cockerels
