Yesterday about mid day I noticed one of my saphire gems was laying in the run. At the time I didn't think much of it because others were doing the same trying to keep cool. When I went in around 7p.m. last night my daughter and I realized she was limping trying to come up to us. She again stopped and layed down in the middle of the run.
I brought her inside and I'm keeping her in an Xtra large plastic dog kennel. I put a thick layer of pine shavings in the bottom to make it a little softer on her hock. She's eating, drinking and pooping normal. She's favoring her left leg though. I read there's a possibility a tendon could slip.
Her foot looks fine, but its like her hock/joint is making it hard for her to support herself properly. She puts weight on it and her leg will bend. There is no twisting or splay look to the leg at all, the leg itself looks normal and no discoloration.
Our chicken house it's off the ground and I've seen her jump from the ramp previously in the morning, could she have jumped and landed wrong?
My husband is going to help me examine her, so i can check for swelling etc. Is there anything else I need to look for? Is it safe to give her 1/4 a baby aspirin twice a day?
We are feeding Purina Chick Starter/grower feed.
UPDATE: she mainly just layed in the same spot all day yesterday. I did bring one of her sisters in for a bit and she perked up. Upon further examining we did find a small black spot under her foot, it doesn't look swoolen though so I'm not sure what to think. I soaked it in an Epsom salt bath until she decided she wanted to fly back into the kennel for the night. I will try again today. This morning when she was eating she was standing on that foot, but still seems wobbly.
