On July 1st my silkie hen BB hatched her only chick after 19 days of brooding named Phoebe.

Hours after hatching we have Phoebe and BB huddled in the nest together.

Here is Phoebe with *her* mother and father, Rex and BB enjoying some strawberries at 10 days. *She* started developing some interesting grey markings on her wings.

Here’s a better look at around a month old

At around 6 weeks… Phoebe turned from this adorable hatchling puff ball into this weird chick whose head looked extremely small next to *her* body.

Here’s Phoebe at 7 weeks old today just after a dust bath so excuse the greasy looking feathers 😂

By now the grey has really came on strong especially in the tail and wings as well as the feet feathers. There are splotches of grey around her body as well.

But just because now Phoebe is a bit more grown up, it doesn’t mean *she* doesn’t like to cuddle in with mom!

It is so fascinating to see the changes daily in *her* body and behaviour. Now we have some waddles barely peeking out of her cheeks! She doesn’t really look like a silkie yet but we’ll allow her some time to redeem herself and her feathers 😅 We really hope Phoebe is a she (we already have 2 roosters in our closed flock so we don’t need another!) but only time will tell!
