The most common way of sexing chicken is to check the comb and wattles. Cockerels always develop larger, redder combs and wattles before the pullets do. In chickens with a barred pattern, the females are have less and darker barring. Also, with Barred Rocks, the female chicks are dark grey with a small white dot on their head, while the male chicks have a much larger white splash. Black Sex-Links are usually cross between a Rhode Island Red cock and Barred rock pullet (if I am incorrect on the cross, and it's less specific, please tell me), so the female are black with reddish markings on their chest, while the males are barred. These are a few common examples, but there's is an article in the learning center.Thank you. I'm fairly new to chickens but already have an addiction to em. Can you tell me what to look for in sexting chickens, I have a few others that came straight run and they're about 3-6 weeks. I pick a few up at the local feed store every week. Thank you.
