7 year old suspended from school for shaping breakfast bar into "gun."

In the lower grades her are no uniform, but i think from middle school on its khakis or black plants with any solid color polo shirt, small logo okay. Back in Ohio they had they school uniform. Khakis or dress pants, skirt or dress optional for girls (blue, khaki, black) with polos in a shade of blue or white. It was okay since my kids wore the same size anyways..

Decades ago, I was schooled in a quaint English village. We wore uniforms, went to daily assembly, did daily sports, and skipped rope with the best of them. Despite this, bullying still very much happened, as did things like parental abuse, and religious intolerance. These sorts of issues were, however, not openly discussed. Despite my great fondness for these childhood years, it was certainly not a perfect utopia where things like fighting did not exist. I am personally very wary of looking at anything through too heavy a shade of rose. We do that to an umpteenth degree in the US where we ramble on about the 'good ol' days' that were not equally good for all people, and often remiss to remember some of the more negative aspects.

The linked article shows a completely uncalled for and overblown reaction that should receive a great deal of public criticism, and hopefully would be used as an opportunity to open up dialogue on the subject within that community. That said, it is nothing I have not encountered years and years ago when my dad was called by frenzied school staff because a sibling of mine had brought a comb to school that flipped out of a case when a button was pushed (looked to much like a switch-blade they said). As with many things, you simply didn't hear about it.

The tragedy is that it's spreading and soon will be a epidemic ! Are the school boards sending out such a bad message to the teachers that they feel that common sense no longer plays a factor in good judgement ? My son took a hunting magazine to school and the teacher warned him to take it home and that he couldn't bring them to school ? looking at it at lunch with a few buddies who also want to hunt once they get to age ! I wanted to go there and give her head a shake and see what fall's out ! Whats the world coming to ???
