7th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2016 Hatch-A-Long

Thanks to you guys I decided to join the New Years hatch-a-long this year, and boy am I glad you did so ;)
Put 20 Black copper marans eggs in my homemade incubater. There were chicks in 11 of those (hard to see with brown eggs).
1 never made it out of the egg. I helped it a little, but it still died.
1 almost died on me, but it's getting better every hour passing by (walking, eating and drinking)
9 are in perfect condition.
So... 50 % hatchrate. Not fantastic, but still pretty good considering the season.

Easter is a early this year, so I'll still have to paint the eggs myself for easter ;)

Here are som pics:

So happy to hear that baby pigeon is good..so sad about your finches! Are these some that you bought as eggs? Or from a pet supply? Expensive?

...
I got a pair of finches from a pet store ($20 each), then I hatched one of their eggs and then the baby helped them hatch out another egg. So the baby I hatched is the only one left.

I'm one of those people who take in animals people have outgrown or can't keep. We're now home to 18 rabbits (OMG!!!) and this was the indoor cage for the one bunny we got. Originally it was a terrarium. It's very sturdy and sits on heavy duty wheels. The rabbit man turned it into a double decker unit to store the rabbit stuff...so I can have two levels of chicks. I raised all of my own hatching chicks in it. But I've got to get the guys to put the second level in.

I never would have incubated at this time of the year if I didn't have it. It was $50.
