That sounds like terrible packaging, and overly soiled eggs is just ridiculous as well. I can understand a few with a little mud or poop that can be easily removed, but covered is just unacceptable.

Have you candled them to make sure they didn't get damaged during shipment?

I think I am going to try Sand paper. I am going to try it and see if it will work
It is fine!

Sorry about the bad shipping.

I posted today about washing eggs.

thanks Ron
I'm sorry. I hate it when people don't know how to package eggs properly. I hope they hatch though. How are the air cells?
Air cells are iffy. Only two fully rolling air cells i am pretty sure. they sent 9, with 2 rolling and only 3-5 normal air cells I think that If I can just get the Detatched air cell under control they will be ok.

It was post 1391

Yes, you can safely wash them. Use warm water to get the stuff off--the theory is that using water warmer than the egg will not force bacteria into the egg--It's a thermal properties thing. Then rinse them in a weak bleach solution--1TBL bleach per gallon of water, contact time one minute. This will not remove the bloom and I have cleaned dirty eggs--they hatched fine for me.
thanks. As I said I will probably try sandpaper

Please try dry green scotch bright pads first

@Wickedchicken6 . I have a really old brower so I will have to turn them, but how much does all that opening to turn the eggs(do you turn part or all the way over?) change the temperature too much?

First, it only changes it a few degrees. Nothing to worry about. Especially when you consider that a hen can leave the nest for half an hour or so.
As for how much to turn, just kinda roll them half way. The point is to keep them from sticking to the shell.
Think of it like a pot of tomato soup. If you don't stir it, it burns/sticks to the bottom.
Turn an odd number of times daily. The best advice is to cut the bottom out of an egg carton. Elevate one end. Then later that day, lift the other end up. Just keep switching ends.

I agree with MotorcycleChick. I think opening the top is fairly negligible for turning. I've got 18 eggs on right now and I candled, turned them and rotated each egg"s position tonight. I take the entire top off while I do it and it stays off for the whole time...lol.

I closed the lid at 8:55 23 seconds and it was back to normal temps at 9:02 and 20 seconds. The lights shut off at 9:02 and 36 seconds. (I was noting this for another thread...lol) So that was 7 minutes to be back to proper temps. I'm sure the eggs don't change that much. The hen rises up each time she turns her eggs and that it can be 50+ times a day. (Please correct me if I didn't state that correctly)

If I'm just turning them, it's much quicker. But I usually don't turn the eggs 1/2 a turn, I turn mine just 1/4 a turn. Interesting. The reason I turn only that much is I'm sure I read somewhere about the albumin and the turning?? Hens don't turn the egg much at one time...that's what I'm going by. I think both are fine. I also have an easier time to keep track with the 1/4 turn.

I always use gloves, nitrile right now because Walmart's been out of the vinyl (twice now!) My candler is a dollar store led flashlight. I may try something brighter.

I was going to take a better pic..but my phone's dead.

Now you've gone and done it! Begun the "to hatch upright or in a carton " debate.
I'm a lay down kinda person. Daxi, do whichever.

Me too, except, when I have them in a turner.

Got my eggs tonight. Will set them in the morning. Little silkies on the way!
