7th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2016 Hatch-A-Long

I wish there were someone near me that had raw milk I could trade for! I've always had a cow to milk. I still have cows but lupus and arthritis make it too hard for me to milk them now. I miss the milk soooo bad!!
I just got into goats for milk this last year, though I do have one beef cow that I milk for a while after she calves. I just take enough for me while she eats her grain untied in the pasture. She is a great cow and her babies do fine. Last year was her first and that heifer on just pasture weighed 696 pounds at six months to the day.

Breezie also loves playing with a ball. Yes, that's her hoof print. She signs most of her paintings. :D
have you ever given her one of those huge pasture balls for horses to play with? I got one a few years ago after watching this black fresian just have a ball with one. My gelding just looked at it and never played. I will have to try it with my new mare.

I want one, but the wind would take it down the hill from where the horses are and put it in the cactus. The horse pens are each two acres but they slope a little...I would have to put it in the arena and let them play with it in there. I'm sure I have several horses that would have a blast with it.

Have you thought about having someone come over and milk your cow on shares? I know I would in a heartbeat if you were closer.

Power was off at my house for a couple of hours today.

Not a problem--works for the cool down cycle.

I was going to turn that on today so will now wait until tomorrow.

Interesting process this egg cooling thing. I could easily do this with my coolerbator and a timer as all parts are independent. Anyone tried this or have the brinsea incubator and tried it? Any harm done to start later like this weekend. Makes a good point for candling as you are cooling while candling.

I live a bit far from anyone, but I was kinda thinking if a friend or two wanted to get involved I could take the cow to live at their places, if everyone could take turns....

Sure you don't want to move? I have a couple rental houses on the ranch!

I use the cool down cycle when I can. If I have staggered hatches I can't. I turned in on tonight.
