7th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2016 Hatch-A-Long

Candled, again. 5 of the 18 shipped eggs have stopped. The only eggs that I set from mine that is growing is from the Marans I only set it because it was the last they laid for season and it was refrigerated before starting.

Crazy day: went to visit famiy a couple days earlier than I had planned (i am a genius and sliced my leg with a saw and ended up with 8 stitches)so had to bring the incubator with me. Lots of fun hobbling across walmart on crutches to buy an inverter so the bator didn't get too cold. Everything is on lockdown now that I am at my sister's place. Lost 1 egg on the trip, but it was a green egg that never started developing that I couldn't see into. Luckily it didn't explode-just cracked. Ah the adventures of hatching (by the way saw horses were invented for a reason, guess I figured out what that was...)

Sorry about the saw accident! I have been prone to accidents too. Luckily the worst was a broken arm in the sixth grade.

Way to go bringing the incubator with you! Love the cracked egg storry and I hope it was not stinky.

fortunately the inner membrane was intact until I got it in a ziplock ( my nephews were super funny when they saw the crack. One started poking at it until I told him it might explode if he did; wow, did his eyes pop!)

I just came back from milking the cows again for the evening.
And running a few errands.
Not enough time in the day, even with the solstice.

As soon as we get 30 hours in a day, We'll be straight.
Guess where I will be in six hours???

I want 30 hours a day too...and a Jersey....and new hands......

I don't think my messed up shipped Serama eggs are doing much. It's only been a few days, but my own eggs that I set at the same time clearly have healthy looking spiders in them. Maybe the shipped eggs are slower, but that's not good either....

My HAL eggs that are in the mind reader experiment bator are still doing good.

I tried milking zebu, thinking a smaller cow might be easier. Turns out that zebu won't let their milk down unless the calf is nursing. Makes the process very tedious. Made me miss heresies.

Good to know. I was looking at Zebus, but if that's the case, nevermind them... I guess i'll look for another miniature.

Oh good, power outage..wouldn't be a good thing here. Too many things going on for chicks, chickens, and eggs!
I lost a baby quail during the last power outtage. I tried so hard to keep that thing warm and make sure it had food... oh well, got a few eggs in the bator for quail.

Well, tossed another 2 eggs tonight (infertile). That makes, 1 blood ring, 2 infertile. There's one egg in there that I'm pretty sure is toast, but I'm still waiting. At the moment though, I have 8 chicken eggs and 4 quail eggs... but I am expecting to toss another chicken egg by lockdown.
