I didn't think anyone cared anymore. I put canned chili in one. I'll post a picture when I use the other one.

I was going to lockdown at lunch today but when I came home the heater condensate line decided to leak past the too short pan. Imagine that the pan was too short to catch the drips. It's only been up there 15 years but today it chose to leak. So I spent lunch time in the attic doing a temp fix. Will turn turner off and increase humidity then catch the rest after I get back.

After reading previous posts, I decided to put all the eggs I collected the week before Dec 11th into my homemade incubator, knowing some might not be fertile and some wouldn't make it to hatching day. I candled on day 15 and 38 of 38 all moving and had same size air cells. I'm nervous about hatching day, sounds like things can go wrong, but I optimistically hoping for lots of chicks!

So first hatch, lock down is today, and we are leaving for Westport. I am taking my incubator with us, nothing like RV ing with 38 eggs and hopefully coming home with chicks. My husband, thinks I may have lost my mind, but he is a sport and going along with my somewhat crazy idea.

We are traveling a day early, so that I can use that time frame window removing the turner and placing into lock down, its only an hour and a half. I have an inverter to keep the heat consistent while we drive, and foam for a smooth transit. They won't even know they have been moved. As soon as we arrive, they will go into lock down, so by late afternoon, during the mean time, just keeping everything as close as it has been, temp and humidity and steady. Hopefully not a too far fetched plan, but I really want to watch them hatch! We have a generator if we lose power, and backup "stuff". I feel like I am packing for childbirth.

Lock down question, is there a position that you set the egg, or just lay them on their sides? Do I lay them on "something" towel or just the screen?

I am setting up a 24 hr time-lapse GoPro to capture the hatching, hopefully it will go smoothly and I'll be able to share. If not, next time, I'll stay at home with my eggs. Wish me luck... oh and again, just lay them on the screen?

Great idea to use time lapse on a GoPro. I hope it turns out so we can all watch.

Odd I was just thinking that my truck window should be next. Many small chips and when it's cold and the heater gets started in the truck that's when it happens too many trips on 65 and 99. Seems a lot of rocks get to flying on those roads

The babies were moved to their new home so I could start cleaning the brooder in preparation for the new arrivals. Ms. Molting Welsummer was curious but respectful - and the chicks - totally unafraid. I'll keep them behind their little fence for another month before letting them out loose together though...

Only 5 out of 23 quail eggs went into lockdown the rest were clear or broken..... I may of dropped one or two.

I also had all but one chicken egg go into lockdown, so that is 5 out of 6!

I hope they hatch!

Well, 4 quail eggs went into the lockdown incubator yesterday evening... Then my small children decided that rough housing near the incubators was a good idea...
Both lockdown incubators crashed to the floor. 3 out of 4 quail eggs were cracked or crushed. The Ameraucana lockdown incubator only had 3 eggs and none of them cracked (too scared to candle). Anyway, from the 7 eggs in lockdown, only 4 remain.
3 more eggs go into lockdown today. The main incubator remained in place, thank the Lord.

My friend says i have the worst luck with chickens they've ever seen. I'm beginning to believe them.

How awful!

I hope some of them make it!
