7th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2016 Hatch-A-Long

I didn't get to post it here but I accidentally cracked an egg on day 12, pretty badly. I put packing tape on it. And I thought for sure I killed it. Well it was still alive this morning!! Air cell was drawing down and I could see movement! :fl

Hi, I am pretty good! My son had strep over Christmas and I got it too, but barely. It actually has been nice to have a long break from things and take it easy. He can't eat so I haven't even cooked!

I am hatching more silkies from the breeder I get most of my eggs from. I very sadly, and I hate to tell you this, lost most all my lavender and porcelain and all but one of my paint silkies to a determined family of raccoons. :hit. I probably cried like I had lost my firstborn. I am mostly recovered and I still have my last 7 silkies, a paint rooster, black and showgirl hens and showgirl rooster. I think they hatched in August or Sept. so it will be awhile before they lay.

I am so glad you are hatching your own eggs! How many do you have, from what colors? I set mine on the 11 th and they are doing nothin' right now.

I hope your holidays have been good, sounds like you were super busy! How are the kiddos? Do they get excited for chicks??

Sorry to hear that you guys were sick, but glad you got to rest. This vacation has been super busy for me and even though I enjoy having them home, I'm looking forward to things slowing down a bit once school starts again! And getting my BYC time back! ;)

I'm so sorry to hear about you loosing your silkies!! All those hatches we did together! It's so sad. :hugs at least you have some left and are hatching more now! This is my first non-shipped hatch. I'm not keeping these chicks, they are already sold. I am still working on getting set up for breeding paints in spring. I finally got rid of the last of my buff, last weekend. So these will be white, buff and possibly black. My paints were hatched the same times as yours, so still have some waiting to do. But I am getting a paint hen that is laying next week! I definitely will set those eggs! Good luck with the hatch! :fl I can't wait to see pics when they hatch. What colors are these? And again, so sorry about the loss!!
Ugh, my mother, father and sister-in-law(s) are visiting and its difficult to hover over the 'bator with 3 other people standing there! Maybe a little selfish of me, but get outta the way folks  :D

I know exactly how you feel! I've had family come over before during hatch and I can't even concentrate on what they are saying because I really just want my face glued to the incubator or to be posting on BYC!! :gig

700

700

2 hatched 1 zipping, and 6 pipped.

Check the eggs for the 48th time today all 3 pipe and hear peeps. One piped the wrong end but it making noise and trying to get out. Want to help but don't want the others to be shrink wrapped.

I have one egg that has been pipped since this afternoon. Little worried, it is quite a ways down from the pencil line. I'm just hoping that it drew back that far during the two days in lock down.

Thanks!

I've been looking for a buff breed chicken that has the dark tail markings. I saw them on a 60s movie and am trying to find the breed.
Buff Brahma are going to be easier to find, but also Buff Sussex look like this. The Buff Sussex are hard to find, though! Took me two years to get mine!

From Waltz's Ark in Colorado. Google to find his web site.

I am trying to get caught up here, but every time I think I have read the last post, I look down and see notifications for new posts! You are all a very talkative bunch.

Congrats to all those with pips, zips, peeps and hatches! :clap :jumpy

I have 13 in lockdown - 11 Svarthöna and 2 project eggs. :fl

:fl on you eggs!!!

So technically day 19 started around 7 pm est. So......I am still early. Not worrying too much. ;) :lau
