7th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2016 Hatch-A-Long

You need this sign: I would just use plain water.
Thanks too both. After using water I noticed the eyelids do open. So off to store to buy vitamens without iron as Ron said. That sign is awesome. If I was to put it on a post at the fancy subdivisions entrance it would last a day two tops but would get the point across.

I had forgot about splash. Don't think this breeder has any. Another breeder told me his had black spots on them and they were supposed to be white. He was happy with their egg production if I remember right.

Regular baby vitamins without iron? As in human baby. Haven't had one of those around here lately. Wife just confirmed no baby or vitamins here.

Would it help open eyelids?

It might. Are the eyes glued shut?

A moistened q tip and gentle cleaning will often fix that.

I am having a major issue with the humidity on my hatcher.

I use a Brinsea Octo 20 Adv EX for my hatcher. The fan needs replacing as it is getting noisy and running a little erratically. I cleaned it well before this hatch, but I guess 4+ years of near constant use has taken it's toll. The humidity was holding well at 65% until the first chick hatched, which generally increases the humidity. Then the reading showed the humidity dropping, even as the humidity pump continued to run. I have unplugged the humidity pump for now. Resetting to factory defaults hasn't helped. I can't find my back-up hygrometer at the moment, but I will pick up another one in a bit when I go out and just control it manually for now. I know I can get a replacement fan, but I don't know if the humidity issue can be fixed without sending it in.

And I don't know how much it will cost to get it fixed. Has anyone sent their incubator back to Brinsea for repairs?

I know of at least one person that did.

My Manual says that I am supposed to send mine in every two years for adjustment. Mine it three years old and working well though. I might send it in later this year.

Poly-vi-sol without iron.
But I would cull it instead

That was my thought. But I only have 5-6 out of the 10 hatched of the breed I selected due to mixed eggs sent. So I was hoping it would make it. It's never had its eyes open from hatch as I remember now. Not looking good so that probably won't be issue.

It is worth trying with expensive eggs.

You never know.

The last that I think will hatch. #29 A little EE/Silkie mix. It has fuzzy shanks and a muff and beard.

That one and these 5 are my keepers, 4 EE with muffs/beards. 1 BLRW(mix? Pure is possible, looks pure to me) and one French blue copper maran(mix? Pure is possible, looks pure to me).

I definitely have a rooster in my desired breed. Twice now while reaching in to get chick out he's rushed and pecked me. The Marans is most likely a rooster as well due to same characteristics. :lau
