7th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2016 Hatch-A-Long

I will be investing in a premier1 as soon as I have some extra money. I love the concept of it and it seems like a great idea for the babies.
Their new catalog came in the mail last week. They have a new roll out nest box that is going for about $40.00. I will get one on my next order with them. They have free shipping for orders over $100.00.

Supposed to get down to 25F here tonight. Freezing temps for several days ahead.
Whose idea was it to hatch chicks in winter?
We are at 25F now. Forecast says 11F tonight. Brrrrrr!!!

I guess I should have looked closer at the weather report. The temp is actually supposed to go up to 30F tonight as the snow moves in. Then it will sink all day tomorrow down to 11F. My

stands.

The Record low for Woodland, CA is 15 degrees in 1937.

We do not get very cold!

One of my Svarthöna pullets decided to start laying yesterday

even though the temperatures have been dropping drastically the last couple of days. We reached 70 degrees just a few days ago and today when I woke up the temperature was 9 degrees!

This particular pullet happens to be in a project pen, not because she is a part of it, but because she grew up with those that are. I'm thinking about putting the eggs in the incubator to test my cockerel's fertility (that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

). So, who thinks a chocolate, fibro, possible woolly carrier, green egg layer would be cool?

(Really, I need another project like I need a hole in the head

That would be SO COOL!

LOL I love chocolate chickens (and pigeons, ducks, turkeys and quail that have chocolate colored feathers).

I was smart, I just let my pigeons hatch an egg for me. They did all the work and took care of the baby...

but now the baby is too big for them to fully keep warm

So now I will have to take care of it and hand feed it for the next 3 weeks
