4am??? LOL, I'm still sawin' logs at 4AM, so are all my birds!

LOL, I have worked mid-nights for years. I do not "DO" the dayshift thing well. I am off work for surgery on my arm right now and spend LOTS of time on here reading in the middle of the night. I'm not much on TV and I love learning more about the chickens. I work for the local Zoo and tend to keep a very strange schedule by most standards. Lots of Power naps.

kuntry... I've never weighed any of my eggs, ever, lol, so I can't say if your egg weight are good or bad, lol. I've always been more concerned with them just being close in size, clean, fresh and with stable air cells for setting... (I'm really not really an expert, just a hatch-o-holic lol).

Hatch-o-holic = expert in my book. :lau

I saw your setup so, I KNOW YOU'RE AN EXPERT. :gig

Great, we all should be hatching guineas within a few days of each other.

I'm excited and crossing my fingers about everyone's guinea egg hatch including mine.

I'm crossing my fingers too. I want some guineas so bad. Have you found any more out on the weight of guinea eggs? I'm wondering now if mine are unusually small.

The girl I got the eggs from shipped me a dozen free minus shipping eggs today. I hope I get some out of the 30 eggs I will set, and I really hope I get some pretty colors.

When is everyone going to candle for the first time? I'm thinking I'm going to wait 7 days and candle Sat morning.

I'm still looking on egg weights. Will let you know when I find out some information.

I wish I knew how to candle. I will try to candle the guinea eggs. I had NO luck candling my Maran eggs, so I'll try again with the guinea eggs. I'll candle with you.

I wasn't sure about candling at first. I kept trying every couple of days, then I started to see things develop. As it got further into the incubation time I began to see what others were posting about.

The veining, dipping and pipping, shadowing, internal pip, zip etc. was confusing until I experienced it for the first time. I found that to get the best view I had to be sure to wrap my hand around the flashlight so that no light escaped. Also I found that candling from the pointed end worked best for me. I would turn the egg on it's side and my view got worse. Maybe it just works that way for me but it works better from the pointed end none the less.

kuntry, have you checked out this thread? It's about candling chickens eggs, so the development timeline's will be off, but at least you get the general idea of what the veins and embryo development look like. Hope that helps!

And aren't Maran eggs super dark brown?
