8 full days, got movement

I had 12 eggs in the first batch.
I just candled them and have confirmed movement in 7.
2 are green eggs and hard to see, but they aint clear . . .
3 are obviously clear duds.

These are from a backyard flock, and an older flock at that.
Im just glad I some fertile eggs, its soo exciting to see them swimmin around in there!


I have a ton of hatchery chicks, but these guys(IF they survive) will prolly be some of my favorites, just because I/we produced them ourselves . . .
They are a mix of EE, BR, BO, Del, and a EE rooster, with a cool lookin polish as a backup voyer . . .

Imma see if my camera can pick up the candling on video.

I put 8 more eggs in yesterday also!

Congratulations!!!!
I remember my first "swimmin around in there" moment, oh, so eggciting isn't it!
They hatched last Sept. and just started laying last month, beautiful brown, pink, and blue tinted little pullet eggs, I am so proud of them!

I need to remind/tell people these eggs are in my homemade incubator, I hope I get at least a couple to survive from the 1st batch of the 1st time I used my 1st diy chicken egg incubator.

And I am really forgetful as far as turning- did I do it? should I do it now? I know I havent done it all day . . .

I know the temp is good in there.
Humidity . . . your guess is as good as mine, I say its right on the money, using 1oz of water every 3 days so far, my house is basically at 48%, give or take . . .

Mine are in a homemade bator, too. First hatch was in there and was a bit rough but 5 made it to pip and 3 hatched and lived. Out of 18 shipped eggs. Lots didn't make it to lockdown, but looking back my candling skills weren't great then either. Had lots of detached cells. So not bad for a first hatch in a homemade bator I thought. I think the two didn't make it out because I broke lockdown a couple times... lesson learned.

My best hatches have been between 40-50% so your right in there.
Would like to see the bator setup now.
